Good Canadian Kid

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. ...and Mboko has made it to the finals of the Adelaide International, a precursor event to the first major of the year, the Australian Open, which commences Jan 17.

She will start that tournament as the 18th seed.

Laylah Fernandez is seeded 22.

Auger-Aliassime, due to inactivity in tournament play, has dropped to world #7 which will be his seed in Australia.

Denis Shapovalov is seeded 21.

Another male Canadian with some promise, Gabriel Diallo, world rank of of #33 last I checked, will play world #3, German, Alexander Zverev (I'll drop his old lady in the Girls thread one day), thus is in tough and will do well to win a set.

Mboko and Alliassime have a chance to make some noise in their draws.

In other news Canadian golfer Nick Taylor shot a first round 8 under 62 to be T1 after round 1 in the first sanctioned PGA event of 2026 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Nick is the fellow who, in 2023, was the first Canadian born winner of the Canadian Open since 1954.

Mboko went down in the finals easily, 3 and 1, to world #8 Russian Mirra Andreeva.

...interesting that Russian tennis players continue to take part in world events playing under an "International" label....hockey players not so much....

Regardless a final is a final so another good result for the Canadian.

Nick Taylor remains tied for 1st in the PGA event in Hawaii and there are 4 Canadians in the top 36:

Taylor
Corey Connor
Taylor Pendrith
Adam Svensson

Meanwhile Summer McIntosh continues to turn heads in the swimming world at a Pro Series event in Austin, Texas.

If she stays healthy watch for this young lady to crush the next Summer Olympics.

I've waxed poetic about Summer McIntosh in this and the previous Candian kid thread.

I've also mentioned she is trained by Michael Phelps old coach.

Here are his comments about her...

I'm telling you....eyes wide open...this girl could turn into the best female swimmer of all time.

Victoria Mboko won her 3rd round match at the Aussie Open (first tennis grand Slam event of the year as a reminder) to make the 4th round (round of 16 - major tennis tournaments start with a field of 128) of the event.

As a reward she okays World # 1 Aryna Sabalenka next round on Saturday.

She will lose but this is her best showing at a major in her young career and a great start to 2027...a finals loss in Adelaide and now this.

As stated before she could have, at 19, a great year.

Unfortunately Felix Auger-Aliassime had to retire due to injury issues in his R1 match up.

Very disappointing.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.
