It will be the extra pick needed to make the big trade to complete the group being assembled to be competitive in 2030-31.

The Rangers will still be denying the need for a rebuild in 2030. Interesting strategy trying to go from bad to not good. It is the Chris Drury’s of the world that make me optimistic that EP40 returns value.

Yes, quite so. I should have specified that I don't see much there beyond Buium and Willander that could develop AT the NHL level this year.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Very strange move by them.
An important question is what does the pick become should they happen to be picking in the top 10? The next years unprotected? Looking over their roster there is a very good chance they are a bottom feeder by then or sooner.
Rags fans were already livid with CD, I can only imagine how this one is being received

They had PA, JR, & FA (TFG's!!!) above them.
What could they do to stop the shit show other than leave in protest? Instead, stayed, toed the line, and a few years later take their fucking jobs! And hopefully now do things million times better (remains to be seen).
Pretty smart boys to me.

That's like blaming the movie star for the wreck of the SS Minnow.
Spot on about the sandwich gals and the cheap owner though.

The most foolish trade of a first round pick since Phil Esposito traded one for Michel Bergeron, who was being fired and could have been had for free.
If you'd told me that Drury would not get a first for Trocheck and would be trading a first for Marcus Pettersons, I would have beat my head against the wall.
Come to think of it, I'll go do that right now

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

The 3 Gilligans have made smarter moves on their first day of free agency than any Canucks GM has done on the same day in the past 15 years.
There's still a few hours left to go, so they could wreck shit real good still, but one cannot help but be optimistic here that they have a plan and are sticking to it.
They have shed a bad contract in Marcus Pettersson and received a 1st round pick for it.
They have moved a struggling player for a 3rd round pick (above his current value by all accounts).
They have acquired size and strength that can play in the top-6, have the reputation of being protectors of their teammates, and they have kept them to deals not more than 2 years in length.
They have NOT added any "win now (or even in 2 years)" players with unreasonable over-payments or future-sacrificing trades.

What I'm most happy about with the Meaty deal is the Miller trade tree, that started with a 1st rounder in 2019, could now live on and branch out for another decade, plus.
It's essentially undoing the colossal mistake of the Meaty trade and punting the NYR's 12th OA in 2025 to 5/6 years down the road. And hopefully, if HG's are done punishing us by then, give the Rangers the lottery win in 2031
.
I'm close to giving up on Mancini. I'll give him one more show-me year but that's pretty much it.
Any kind of positive value from Chytil, whether he can get healthy and play and/or net something positive in return, is a bonus and not any kind of expectation.
So the only thing really to show would be DoC and what he could get back.
Now, the other parts matter less and would just be icing on the cake if they work out. This return is huge.
