Not much chance since it's not one superpower against another.
Boots on the ground. Another Afghanistan. That's my prediction.

Hard to say - but there's an idiot running the US side of things, Israel seems to have an endless supply of bombs, Russia is still busy in Ukraine, and China (I think) will happily step aside and see how it plays out - but they could take Taiwan while nobody's watching.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2026 10:41 am So what do y'all think the chances are that this shiticane evolves into ww3? I think for a full WWIII, there would need to be attacks from countries other than Iran hitting Europe directly. I don't see it happening. Could a false flag event set things off? Who knows.
TOPOS could just as easily send troops into Iran as he could withdraw and brag about how all of the goals were met. Flip a coin.
The Jet Woo Era is over.

What about a move like US on Greenland? That's still a thing evidently
The way it's trending I can see the possibility of the US becoming the aggressor/enemy of the tradional NATO/Western European/Asian countries if the idiot continues to maintain his perch

I wonder who they will find to fight it? If the news is accurate that the one carrier is experiencing mechanical failure from sailors flushing t-shirts and is now returning to Greece for repairs then the kids may actually get to decide. Good on them if it does work out that way.

2nd World War, my father is in the Merchant Navy hauling sugar from Jamaica to England. At one point they steam up the eastern seaboard to Halifax and word gets around that there will be an inspection when they get there. The old man hasn't been maintaining his Oerlikon, a rusted hulk that somehow the bolts come loose and falls overboard two days out of Halifax. A bright new shiny replacement is in place for inspection. Some things don't change.MJN wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2026 3:59 pm I wonder who they will find to fight it? And the traditional alliance will fight back with scolds.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2026 2:05 pm What about a move like US on Greenland? That's still a thing evidently

Honestly, I don’t see the US being militarily hostile to the allies being likely anytime in the near future. I think the Greenland gambit is intended, in part, to show the emperor has no clothes without the US and to make the alliance face that fact. This is not to say the US doesn’t want it for a price, and I am certain there’s a price that Denmark sells it becaus everything is for sale. Not sure those prices overlap.
Greenland’s primary interest to the US (and Canada) is strategic/military/naval. It has never been clear to me that any significant activities relating to these interests are hampered by Denmark’s control, so I am not sure exactly what the deal is now, but I do think that part of what has happened is a demonstration project, and that if the US is basically going to police the straits for the benefit of itself and the alliance and it’s part western hemisphere, why wouldn’t the US control the semi autonomous region? It is definitely an older political view, but the part of the Trump admins foreign policy that I do understand is that it operates on realism, on the assumption that nations acts in their self interest, that rules and norms are only as good as their enforceability, that international enforceability comes through power (not idealism), and that while our allies don’t (say they) think this way, our enemies do—and therefore if you aren’t thinking this way, you are feckless when your scolds are ignored.
But I also think the subtext of the speech message Vance gave over a year ago to the Munich security conference is “give the US a reason to continue in this alliance.” He decides to scold on the idealistic plane (democracy, so why you cancelling elections and stuff), (free speech, so why you jailing people who call politicians dicks), but on the realism plane, there has been movement (except I suppose with Canada and Spain). That movement is increased military capability by nato allies, or at least commitments to do so.
Now, if the US wished to depart from NATO AND be hostile to what remains, why would it engineer rearmament? No, what the US wants is for European NATO countries to be more effective of Europe so that the US can focus more of its forces everywhere else in the world. Plus, I think there is a “fairness” component; the US has, for years and years and years, made priority choices to maintain real military force to give NATO teeth (as well as other strategic priorities) and it comes at the expense of lower taxes or other government spending, which our allies choose over military because the US will be there. Getting Europe to ask the question “what if they aren’t” or “what if they are the enemy” recalibrates equations….

Re: We're All Doomed!™ (the Conquest, War, Famine, and Death Thread)
UW I would like to think that despite all of the trump admins bluster that there i some sort of an agenda but sadly I (and many, many others) believe he ismore likely a 300 lb infant who wants to make a legacy akin to the Monroe doctrine. There are some who think he sees a world map and thinks it "might be cool" to absorb what he perceives to be a giant piece of real estate (which appears distortionally large due to map scaling)
He's strongly resembles a narcissistic megalomaniac who has zero tact or respect for anyone else whatsoever. What else can the world think given everything he has said and done the past 14 months???

Dress him in lederhosen, give him a monocle and a fluffy white cat.
Greenland was a farce to begin with. How many bases has the US abandoned there in the past 50 years? Did they ever request reactivating any of them?
Surprised he hasn't seized upon the deactivated DEW Line bases across the Canadian Arctic.
