US Erection 12 *AND* 16 *AND* 20 *AND* 22 *AND* 24 *AND* Beyond

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

We are all dying a slow death as fans of the Canucks.
Lead characters have to die in Shakespearean tragedies. Otherwise there's no drama.

And while we know this is a tragedy, there's always the 2004 Red Sox and the 2016 Cubs....

Ha.

So if Kris Bryant is Quinn Hughes does that make EP Rizzo?

Ditto Ramirez Ortiz.

I remember the Red Sox much better.

Hughes is both Ramirez and Ortiz and Varitek and let's throw in Pedro Martinez.

Boeser is Curt Schilling.

Jake DeBrusk sort of has a Johnny Damon thing.

EP40? Didn't you know. He was traded before the Canucks won the Cup....

Tciso wrote: Fri Sep 26, 2025 9:06 am I say it is leftist, as when you look at the spectrum, the Right's core values are a belief in the Individual over the group, small, unobtrusive government, and full Democracy and Capitalism. The Left believes in large governement, groups over individuals, high taxes, control over freeedom, and heavy government involvement in the economy, and dictatorship. Communism is Leftist, and wants the State to own production, while Fascism is Leftist, and usually leans more to state control of production, by telling corporations what to make, for how much, etc. As the main difference between the two, it's a pretty fine line And, as someone mentioned earlier, Russia (and China, imo) are more Fascist than Communist, as they don't own the corportations, they just have their oligarchs instead.

To simplify the spectrum, the Far Right, if we follow the spectrum, would be a form of anarchy, with almost no governemnt, and no rules. The Far Left turns into a Communist/Fascist dictatorship.

It is interesting how Fascism grew out of the Marxist communist beliefs, but was mostly labelled as being Right Wing because the Italians and Germans hated Russia so much that they preferred to be called Fascists intead, as they were pretty much the same as Communism.
I disagree with your definitions. The idea that small government is a core belief on the right is a rather novel American idea. Traditional right wing governments have typically been rather robust. The old monarchies gave absolute power to their ruler, much like Trump wants to have it.
Per, do you sometimes forget that you are posting on a (North) American message board in a thread that is discussing American politics?
The same could be said about Canadians posting on American politics. I know some like to think, imagine we are the same. Especially the Maple MAGA/Timbit Trumps who got all cozy with its neighbor during the cheeseball trucker convoy hilariousness, but we are not. In fact the divide is greater than ever thanks to Donny Boy driving that wedge with his nonsense.
Our founding ideas are similar, and our left/right views are also similar. Like it or lump it, Chef, Canada has been Americanized.
But you are still a monarchy.

Most of us are here after the wife got pissed off....

This might be an echo chamber because the same things are said over and over about certain topics, but honestly there's more diversity about social topics than most other places on the internet because we aren't here for this, so it isn't pre-siloed.

Its one of the things to love about sports. It crosses national boundaries, socio-economic class, race, etc., and brings disparate people together to celebrate a common thing. Cheering for a team satisfies the tribalist instinct, the games mimic war, but no one gets killed. Well, usually.
Very true. They made some psychological study where they monitored the reaction to faces. The pictures would flash by, and they studied the immediate response, so basically the amygdala reptile brain response. People would be most relaxed when seeing faces of their own ethicity and have more of a defense response to those of other ethnicities. Rather depresssing, indicating that racism could be hardwired into the brain.

But then they put baseball caps on the people they showed picturs of, with various sports team logos. What followed was that people would be fine with seeing people that supported a team they liked, but defensive when seeing people with a logo from a team they disliked. Suddenly ethnicity was completely irrelevant.

So the conclusion was basically that your brain automatically will try to decide if a person belongs to your tribe or not, and while ethnicity could be a factor, other factors, like sports team merch, were much stronger.

I don’t know what was more of a shit show embarrassment - Trumps UN speech, escalator/teleprompter blame game or todays speech to hundreds of military generals by Trump and Hegseth? Wow. Someone posted photos of the generals during those two Jack asses speeches, quite telling.

“I’m going to be meeting generals and admirals and with leaders and if I don’t like somebody I’m going to fire them right on the spot” - Trump.

So you need to by sympathetic, not empathetic?
Both work. If you're empathetic you feel their pain, if you're sympathetic you understand their pain.
I think it's a matter of personality traits. But both words imply you care.
Splitting hairs, one half dozen of the other.
I don't believe so. Understanding something and feeling something are quite different. Watch a movie with the navy seals going thru selection. I have sympathy for the pain they endure, but I have no empathy, as I have never gone through anything similar, and therefore I cannot feel what they feel. Same for child birth. I had sympathy for my wife's pain, but no empathy.

But, Chef, if you ever break an ankle, bust a nut, bulge a disk, scrape your cornea, pop an ear drum or pass a kidney stone, I have empathy for you.

You come here because you need refuge or you seek a better way of life. You do not get to bring your laws and beliefs in and expect them to be adopted by this country. If your beliefs are in conflict with the ways of the welcoming nation, then you abandon your beliefs and assimilate or you return to whence you came.

AI Overview

Yes, you can empathize without directly experiencing a similar situation by using imagination, seeking knowledge about the situation, and understanding the emotions that might arise from it. While personal experience can make empathy easier, especially for affective empathy, cognitive empathy allows for understanding and connection through mental effort and perspective-taking, enabling you to relate to another person's feelings even if your lived experiences differ
