A player of Hirose’s size and lack of offence, didn’t have much of an NHL future. That being said, he was excellent in the Abbotsford Canucks championship run. Good on him for keeping his pro-career going in Germany. I think McWard still might have an NHL future with the Islanders. He was behind a bunch of better RHD prospects in Vancouver, but that position is rare in the NHL, so I think he has a chance to be a depth guy somewhere.
McWard is on waivers today.
Good. He isn't in our top 12. We finally have some depth on D

The Islanders placed McWard on waivers today.
We didn't re-sign him, remember Cisco
My statement is still true. He wouldn't be in our top 12. But, thanks for the update.

Rathbone waived by Sabres. Man our D depth is so refreshingly strong.
Wouldn't the Sabres keeping Wrath Bone be more affirming of our D depth? Casting off our castoffs just affirms our decisions but says nothing about how strong the rest of our players are.
If teams were keeping our castoffs, that would be a good sign.
I didn't see a post on this, but Barkov is out for the season. MCL and ACL, apparently happened at a practice.
Florida was in a position where they were $4 million+ over the cap, which wasn't an immediate problem because Tkachuk will be on LTIR for quite a long time. But before the Barkov injury, they were going to have to move some salary to get Tkachuk back in, and I don't think they were going to Mark Stone it into the playoffs. (I am pretty sure Tkachuck wants to be able to play in the Olympics and will do everything he can to be there).
$4 million couldn't have been solved by moving Rodriguez, though it might have been possible to make a few marginal moves and roster adjustments to make that work. Rodriguez was the obvious guy to move because he has the least impact on the Panthers and yet is still worth his salary, though I was also thinking it might be possible they'd move Lundell because they should get a huge future asset return in such a deal.
At any rate, now they can do nothing and potentially have a full roster in the playoffs (I doubt Barkov would be ready at the start of the playoffs, but timelines for recovering from this injury keep improving). But could a Barkov-less and Tkachuk-less roster struggle during the regular season? The division is really good; there might not be a ton of room to error. The roster is still quite good, but imagine Bob being mediocre and other injuries pestering the lineup plus playing more hockey than anyone else over the past 3 seasons. Its a stretch to think they won't be a playoff team, but stranger things have definitely happened.

Except they are talking of castoffs from yesteryears… when our depth truly sucked.

They call it felching....
… ummm…
… you and I have two VERY different definitions for ‘felching’.
Jus sayn.
<edit> … if you do not know the term, and your in a serious relationship, I would recommend against ruining your browser history for your partner to see by googling that term.
