AROUND THE LEAGUE - 25-26
Updated for summer action coming this week.
Re: AROUND THE LEAGUE - 25-26
Mogilny finally in the HHOF. Long overdue.
Chara, Thornton, and Duncan Keith join him. First time on the ballot. I think Chara and Keith were very good, and I found Chara to also be fun to watch in the way a circus is (well, the SCF wasn't fun....), but I'm not convinced either are surefire Hall of Famers. But I don't have to be. I don't have a vote.
Jumbo Joe is quoted by ESPN as having released the following as part of his statement: "Holy doodle, I can't believe that I am receiving this honor." Hilarious. To write that. In a statement. And you know what? That's why it was quoted.

Re: AROUND THE LEAGUE - 25-26
Rangers not exercising their option on the 12th OA pick (the one that went to Vancouver). In other words, it is the Penguins pick.
Could this be the start of a Rangers tear down? A sign that they don't have confidence in their club? Or is it simply that the most likely scenario is for the Rangers to finish in the middle third of the league, and that even if they are in the playoff part of that cohort, they like what could be available at 20 more than they like what will be available at 12 this year. And if they overperform, then they have a first round pick to trade to fortify the team for a playoff run.
As for the Pens, now things are really interesting. They could probably package those picks if they are interested in any of the guys right after Schaeffer and Misa -- there are a lot of rumors that teams may be willing to move.

That's awesome for Almo. Should have happened a few years ago. I think all the recipients are worthy.

In the top ten of all time best goal scorers based on the 50 in 50 metric which is the tradition standard to measure against - should have been in the HHOF a long time ago.
Wayne Gretzky – 50 goals in 39 games (1981–82)
Wayne Gretzky – 50 goals in 42 games (1983–84)
Wayne Gretzky – 50 goals in 49 games (1984–85)
Mario Lemieux – 50 goals in 46 games (1988–89)
Brett Hull – 50 goals in 49 games (1990–91)
Brett Hull – 50 goals in 50 games (1991–92)
Maurice Richard – 50 goals in 50 games (1944–45)
Mike Bossy – 50 goals in 50 games (1980–81)
Mario Lemieux (1992–93) – 50 goals in 46 games
Lemieux missed games due to Hodgkin’s lymphoma treatment but still managed to score 50 goals in just 46 games played.
Cam Neely (1993–94) – 50 goals in 44 games
Neely was recovering from a knee injury and played only 49 games that season but hit the 50-goal mark in just 44 games played.
Alexander Mogilny (1992–93) – 50 goals in 46 games
Mogilny had an insane scoring run but did not start at the beginning of the season.
Mario Lemieux (1995–96) – 50 goals in 50 games
Another incredible season for Lemieux, but this 50-in-50 was based on his games played, not from the start of the season.
Jari Kurri (1984–85) – 50 goals in 50 games
Kurri's 50-in-50 came during the season, but not from the start.

Good on Almo. He was a treat to watch. Once Bure got in, it was a matter of time.

Peterka traded to Utah for Kesselring and Doan.
Shit, Utah wins this one by a country mile. Although Kesselring is a pretty decent right shot D-man. The Sabres have been in the hunt for one for awhile.

Apparently Peterka had to agree to an extension for the trade to go through.

Wow, Kesselring looked great every time I saw him. That’s a steep price. Peterka must be something beyond a malcontent, I guess?

Now that they have their RHD they will likely trade Byram. Demand for him is said to be high.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 8:44 pm Peterka traded to Utah for Kesselring and Doan.

Yeah the more I read the trade, Buffalo did pretty good. They filled a need with Kesselring on the right side, he’s a good player and Doan’s kid is pretty decent himself. They both seem to be character players in which Buffalo seems to be short on. Might be a good trade for Buffalo.Picker of Cherries wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 9:03 pm Wow, Kesselring looked great every time I saw him. That’s a steep price. Utah has a very good top 6 forward group now - Keller, Guenther, Cooley, Peterka, Hayton, Crouse etc., and will be landing a high end forward with the 4th overall pick and have Iginla and But in the pipeline with Simashev on D who is considered their top prospect.

JJ Padonkadonk shouldn't have brought back that package. That's a pretty solid overpayment in my mind
What's with the JJ name anyway? Inst he just John? Big fan of Good Times JJ dynamite?
Wait...Just John. Oh ok I got it
