Woo's minors salary is $290K, basically doubling what it was last year. Minors salary is a slight disincentive to play the claim and pass through waivers again game. Tolopilo makes $230K in Abby the first year, $380K the year after.

Agreed - I'm not holding out hope that he'll make the team out of camp - but with his waiver situation (assuming he needs to pass through) I don't see him as a call up, either. So does he sit in the A or do we trade him?
Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
Also, PuckPedia's updated their assumptions about who is on the roster, and the Canucks have $795K in space if they want to go to 23. That means they could include Bains or Sasson or Raty or Woo, but not Sushi or Mueller (without sending down one their assumed roster players).
Absent trades that create a whole new situation, I think Raty's a near shoe in to start the year in Vancouver. IMO he's better than Aman now and he is is likely to get better still. Raty is skilled at the dot, and I think you want that subspecialty. Blueger's decent, but Raty showed last year that he is quite good.

But not Sivlos (850k) if they want 3 goalies.UWSaint wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 2:59 pm Also, PuckPedia's updated their assumptions about who is on the roster, and the Canucks have $795K in space if they want to go to 23. Woo was already waiver-eligible last year, and he cleared as you would expect. I don't think that's even a consideration with Woo myself.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
He had to pass through waivers last year, and he did. I suspect he'd pass through again, and there's no more likely time to get through than the purge days at the end of camp. There are a couple (few?) teams that might grab a d man on purge waivers day because they like another team's flotsam and jetsam better than their own, or because they decided after camp that a waiver exempt player penciled into the top 6 is better off with more time in the AHL. Heck, I could see the Canucks poaching because of the latter.
In season waivers are a greater risk. Even so, I don't think the Canucks will perseverate all that much about whether to keep or call up Woo if it makes sense to do so at that moment for that need, even if the expectation is that they will have to send him back down through waivers again. Its just the risk inherent with a guy that didn't prove himself an NHL player sooner. He's a UFA next year anyway.
And I don't think there's a trade market, unless its a swap of waiver eligible tweeners playing different positions. Any team that gets him will be in the same boat as the Canucks. And I am having a hard time seeing a team eyeing the waiver wire to value Woo marginally more than others who will invariably hit the wire. If a team really wants to fly with Jett, I suspect they will reach out to Vancouver, declare their intention to claim, and dangle no more than a 6th rounder or a C prospect....

If they waived Aman and added Raty, they's have $845K left, $5K short of Silovs.Cornuck wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 3:08 pmBut not Sivlos (850k) if they want 3 goalies.UWSaint wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 2:59 pm Also, PuckPedia's updated their assumptions about who is on the roster, and the Canucks have $795K in space if they want to go to 23. The only way I could see Silovs in Vancouver next year is if Lankinen or Demko are on the IR coming out of camp. Tampa Bay, Calgary, Columbus, Pittsburgh could all use him now as a back up, or in Columbus' case, even to compete for a starting job (and maybe the older Latvian can be a mentor to the younger). And maybe Nashville, Florida, Edmonton, or Ottawa. Some of these situations have a starter that the team might not want to hang on to in a year or two -- and that's the thing that would be attractive to a buying team. Good enough to play now and if we get a good performance, a possible solution to a starter/platoon for the future.
No way Silovs gets through waivers. And if more than one of these teams expresses an interest, it is possible there will be enough interest for a bidding war such that the Canucks might get more than "nothing", perhaps a pick and a prospect. Every once in awhile a team pays for near ready guys. I don't want to get my hopes up, but looking through the rosters, there are circumstances where this could happen.

I think they are keeping Silovs around as a back up plan in case Demko blows a tire, again. They probably view the risk of having to waive Silovs as collateral damage if they want him to hang around for that level of a emergency.

I can't see it. If you listen to the recent interviews with the old man and his protege there are strong indications of intent to trade that one.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 4:02 pm I think they are keeping Silovs around as a back up plan in case Demko blows a tire, again. They probably aren't getting anything better than a 3rd at best unfortunately

Yeah from the sounds of it a 3rd in return would be a win for Silovs

Classic Canucks.
Draft a guy, he projects like he’s going to become a regular NHL’er…..perhaps even a rather good one, but we have to trade him because of poor managerial decisions

To me he still has trouble tracking long shots. He's a total athlete and agile as hell dealing with shots around the net. I watched hm pretty closely the two times l went out to the Barn.
He stunk in his NHL duty last year. Big reason they missed the playoffs. Mëds taking another swipe at CURRENT management. Shocking.
Weibo would be proud.
I think Dude brings up a salient point. Keep him around through TC. It's a form of insurance if Demko gets injured. Mëds is enraged because of asset management. They will facilitate a trade or put him on waivers to give him an opportunity to push his career forward.

Silovs inability to track long shots is eerily similar to Eddie Lacks problem with long shots. I’m not seeing a top goalie at the NHL level in Silovs.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
I think he improved a lot with long shots and his down low play is excellent. He’s still really young for a goalie. He’ll be a good one, but it will be somewhere else.
I agree they should keep him around as a third goalie unless he is part of a package to bring in a roster player (2C).
It sounds like they’ll only get a late draft pick for him right now. Rather have the Demko insurance until at least Christmas.
His value will increase as goalies get injured.
For the first few months the can rotate starts between Lankinen and Demko and have Silovs play backup every game so the veteran’s get better rest.

I, too, would rather see the Canucks keep Silovs until either they can be more confident about Demko's health, or an injury somewhere else increases his trade value.
