It's not a stretch to say he won't pan out as a top-6 NHL forward. Happens all the time. In fact it is far more likely that he will bust than that he will succeed at the NHL level.

Edit in italics.
And small Euro players have succeeded and many prefer the smaller ice surface because it highlights the strenghts in their games...

The kids 20 and has already put up some good numbers at the AHL level so why we are having this discussion is a head scratcher ...

Reid Boucher????

Take care...
What percentage of drafted NHL players actually become regular NHL players?

While the numbers say that 74% of 1st round picks will become NHL players, those figures are skewed by the success rates of the top 10 picks (particularly top 5).

In this case we are talking about a 15th OA pick. Only 51% of players drafted at that spot play 100 games in the NHL. 33% play 300 games. Only 36% score 100 points.

So it's not a stretch to question if he will pan out. As UW pointed out, the list of smallish forwards who thrive in a less physical game that is played on a larger ice surface but do not see their success translate to the NHL is a long list.

Reid Boucher may be a poor comparison to Sushi, but I think UW explained it well enough.

We can even drop the Euro component. 5'11" is an average height for the NHL, but 172 lbs is not. Many players like that can dominate in junior, Europe/KHL, and the AHL, but not the NHL.
Just relax and let the kid develope....we can carry on this conversation in 2 or 3 years time and by then we might have a good understanding of where his career is....

Take care...
Relax? Lol. I don’t think anyone is stressing.

I actually agree with Mëds.

Last season I really screwed up when I tried to explain that it is important for Euros to get to NA as soon as they can so they adjust to the smaller ice. Canucks IMHO need to not draft any overseas prospects that playing in European leagues at least in first few rounds.

I am assuming KHL play on larger rinks.

More than half of KHL rinks are NHL-size now.

Mëds needs to relax and take care. :D

He does Doc. I'm assuming he wears like a chunky heel and clips his dome on doorways shaking his fist at European players. Mëds needs some good smoke. Dude can you take yim out on a pub crawl?

Sounds like corn hole is a game best played without a judge. I assume they are either walking, or signing league minimum contracts.

I think the league minimum at the NHL level is a given for those two; they're dickering over AHL salary. Woo always takes several weeks to sign his contract for some reason. Tolopilo may be considering European offers and could be trying to get a feel for where he fits in with the Canucks. There's a big logjam here goaltending-wise now.

The Finnish league also has a lax attitude about rink size. They accept both international (60x30m) and NHL (61x26m) standards.
There is also a "Finnish compromise" rink size of 60x28m. I kind of like this attitude. This means that different teams can fit their rink size to the type of game they prefer. But on the road they will have to accept the rink size their opponents use.

In the end this will reward smarter players and coaches that can adjust their game to different circumstances.

Woo and Tolopilo have re-signed.

Woo - 1 year, 2 way deal.

Wouldn't it be nice if Woo made the club this year. That would allow Mancini and Willander to cook a bit. We could also keep Deputy down another year and let Forbert play the L side.

I think that if any prospect is in the top 6 after camp, they will get a chance to play. If Woo is better than DEP or Mancini or Willander or KK he will get the chance, though he's sort of graduated from prospect to tops-out-as-tweener. But I also think that is unlikely to be a good thing it is far more likely that if Woo is better, it is because those true prospects underperformed than Woo found magic at 24.
