Starts about 10 minutes in.

Coming from a guy like Linden…..damn. That’s as candid as I’ve ever heard Trevor. Always the diplomat, I have never heard him “callout” an individual player like that.

A thought…..

When Linden talked about Pettersson struggling to start the season that Green was fired, commenting like he looked like a guy who couldn’t even play in the AHL, and then BB came in and the team rebounded and looked good up until they realized they can’t win that way and they have to “play Travis hockey” so they turned to Tocchet who got them doing that 200 foot game again with systems. Pettersson started strong under Boudreau and had a decent finish when Tocchet replaced Bruce. He then had a decent start under Rick the next season but finished slowly as the demand for 200 foot buy-in increased. Other players also seemed to struggle in the last 3 months of last season despite the good finish in the standings.

Could it be that Pettersson, and perhaps a few others, are simply 100 foot players? Petey has shown us he can score and he has shown us he can play smart defensive zone hockey, but rarely do you see both of those in the same game, let alone the same shift. Maybe he just can’t transition well?

When I look at Miller and Boeser, and obviously Hughes, these are the guys that led the charge for buying in under Tocchet during the summer of 2023 and the following breakout season. They had their best years and were far and away our best players at both ends of the ice. They put in the work but they also had the ability to take the effort and apply it in transition from offense to defense and back to offense. Maybe that is something that Pettersson does not have the mental flexibility to do?

It is what it is…..

At least Bert recognized his limitations and never even bothered to skate back south of center ice except for a line changes during the second period.

Trev is jealous cuz he never had that kind of talent. Also, he's still a bit of a sour puss as ownership kicked him to the curb, so he'll take the opportunity to critique a player/team whenever he can. :P

Bure wasn't a talent ? Trev wasn't right at the end of the day?

He means Linden himself didn't have the talent.

Although the pipe comment I do agree with.

Who cares about talent? Why would Trevor be jealous?

This is a team sport that requires all kinds of skills and intangibles working together. In this context, the topic was about performance, especially during playoffs. It takes certain types to step up, not everyone has that.

He was asked and answered truthfully. Was he wrong? No.

Trevor could not explain how such a TALENTED player could lose all his confidence at times. Harsher opinions would call it a disappearing act. Both are right.

I'm not one to write love poems about Trevor Linden, but I really don't understand why this fanbase will eat some of its own while putting others so high on a pedestal that you need a 2 minute elevator ride just to lick their balls.

The man's reputation and his service to both the organization to the city is impeccable. Doesn't matter what his private beef with the owner is. Doesn't matter if you feel he doesn't deserve to have his number retired. Doesn't matter if you think he was just an average talent and wasn't tough.

If you're going to be honest, he captained some very consistently good teams and lead arguably the best playoff team in franchise history.

I'd take his opinion on playoff performance over any media or joe fan off the street. He knows what he is talking about. He is right and it's not even really criticism of said player.

I'm no Linden fan boy.

But I will say this.

Irrespective of talent he was rarely a passenger.

Can't say the same for Wonder Boy.

So yeah.

What the begrudged dude said.

Trevor should have stood up to Claude and Walt. He's in no position to criticize

Stan or Orland wouldn't get pallooked like that. It's like Tex Cobb giving boxing tips.

That said... Hargraves is good if sd move on but it will give Meds107 another target I guess.
