Re: The Petey Predicament
Don you're hunch that Tocchet may have precipitated this problem himself is interesting and I think it does possibly explain his recent avoidant behavior. Could be that this coach has dug his own grave here, if this is true then he can't rerally mediate the problem since he would be the cause of it.

Re: The Petey Predicament
I wouldn’t put it past Tocchet to have brought in some old school tactics, i.e., sicking a player (Miller) on another player (Petey), or whatever, which might explain Tocchet’s change in character as seen in recent media scrums, looking somewhat sheepish over the incident, like he had a part to play in it. Still really doesn’t explain why a professional hockey player excused himself from the team for 10 games. Miller seems to think of himself as the problem to whatever the problem may be. If it was all Tocchet, I highly doubt Miller takes a 10 game leave

At this point perhaps the answer is to move both of them.

Re: The Petey Predicament
The team went through a similar scenario with Bo vs Miller. All kinds of stories about a split locker room, the Bo camp and the JT camp. Rumours of a rift between the 2. Some said JT had a bullying personality and Bo was too soft.
I love JT and what he brings. I was glad we kept him over Bo. But I am staring to have concerns. If there is nothing too this then show us the love.

Re: The Petey Predicament
I don’t think anyone is being moved other than potentially, Desharnais, Hoglander and the 2025 1st pick for top 4 defender. Miller just shut the media down with the conspiracy, the press meet is on Twitter. Might be time to put this one to bed.

This scenario was run through the HNIC panel over a month ago.donlever wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 10:07 amYou miss my point.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 9:48 amI feel for Tocchet in this situation, he’s a good coach. If we are looking to cast blame - if there is a problem in the family, this falls on the GM and President.
Coaches make mistakes.
In theory, Tocchet may potentially have "nominated" Miller to be the guy to "get some grit and drive" into Peteys game and as an unfortunate byproduct caused a rift.
Shit like Keenan (who RT played for as we know) and Bowman (and many more) used to do all the time.
Player A versus Player B....the Messier/Nedved effect.
Some guys (De Boer) grow into a changing league.
Some guys (Babcock) do not.
Not saying Tocchy is Babs but at times all the spots don't come off the leopard.
In the end I think this is all BS but if we are surmising this is a tough, old school coaching staff (Matt Duchene was commenting on Chiclets this week how tough Foote was on him as a young teammate) so...
...anything is potentially possible with the human animal in play.
Friedland had, at the time, floated that scenario.
Bieksa was adamant that he would never do that to a team mate. Not a player's job.. Hrudy said he may do it but would take the guy to lunch or dinner for a friendly conversation, definately not on ice or in the room.
Friedland and Ron were left speechless as the two players at the table shut them down.

Re: The Petey Predicament
If it was just your standard, typical family squabble, sibling rivalry, water under the bridge spat then why does a professional, veteran, leader in Miller go on leave for 10 games? Something is still a bit off with the whole thing even though everyone has apparently put it behind them.

Smoke and fire logic may dictate both circumstances are inter-relateable but we sinply do not know thay they are not mutually exclusive thus coincidental.

Re: The Petey Predicament
I think it’s pretty clear that Miller likes to take shit out on teammates when shit ain’t going well. We’ve all worked with that guy, but it shouldn’t be personal, if feelings are hurt, then I have questions about the hurt guy. You need that fire in the room. That being said, did he go to far? I could see that. Does he have anger management issues? We can all see that. Sounds to me like he crossed the line and it could be as simple as needing a time out to sort his head out.

Did anyone ever think that maybe JT’s time out was caused by the team asking him if he would consider waiving his NM? Who k owes maybe they were kicking tires and had to run it by him and he had an emotional meltdown? Just spitballing, no insight.

For 10 games? Everyone gets traded, even Gretzky.
