Yeah, perhaps I am being a tad too harsh on him. I was hoping they would re-sign him for 2.5 - 2.75 per. As said, do think it is an overpayment but not a horrible one.

I'm surprised on DeSmith. I really thought they were ready to let Silovs run with the backup job. Of course the Canucks seem to benefit with false rumours being planted to certain reporters. Like they have a trade worked out for Pettersson. Or they are chasing certain FA. Maybe this is a planted to force Silovs to sign for a reasonable number, if he thinks he is slated for Abbotsford again. Or maybe they want to trade Silovs.

If I am DeSmith I am a little pissed that I lost the net in the playoffs and wasn't given a chance to earn it back.

Tciso wrote: Tue Jun 18, 2024 9:59 am So, messing around with the line up. Here is a projection. If we kep/replace Myers and Cole for $3.5mil, we are in good shape. Here is my estimate. Sorry if the formatting goes to shit. But, my lineup is only over by $1.5 mil, with 23 players. Demote a couple of 4th liners, and we fit under the cap. I just ignored Poolman, as we will need his LTIR. I also still managed $7mil for Hronek and Lindholm, $5 for Zed, and $3 for Joshua. So, don't get your shit into a media frenzied knot. We could come back with basically the same lineup pretty easily. Now, it's time to make improvements, not just hanging onto what we had.

2 Pettersson, Elias C, LW 25 $11,600,000
1 Miller, J.T. C, LW, RW 31 $8,000,000
1 Boeser, Brock RW 27 $6,650,000
3 Garland, Conor RW, LW 28 $4,950,000
4 Mikheyev, Ilya LW, RW 29 $4,750,000
1 Suter, Pius C, LW 28 $1,600,000
2 Höglander, Nils LW, RW 23 $1,100,000
2 Podkolzin, Vasily RW, LW 22 $1,000,000
S Åman, Nils C 24 $825,000
S Di Giuseppe, Phillip LW 30 $775,000
4 Blueger, Teddy C, LW 29 $1,800,000
3 Joshua, Dakota LW 28 $3,000,000
4 Lafferty, Sam RW, C, LW 29 $1,200,000
3 Lindholm, Elias C, RW 29 $7,000,000

1 Hughes, Quinn "C" LD 24 $7,850,000
2 Soucy, Carson LD/RD 29 $3,250,000
S Juulsen, Noah RD 27 $775,000
1 Hronek, Filip RD 26 $7,000,000
3 New Cole LD/RD 35 $1,000,000
3 New Meyers RD 34 $2,500,000
2 Zadorov, Nikita LD/RD 29 $5,000,000

1 Demko, Thatcher G 28 $5,000,000
2 Silovs, Arturs G 23 $950,000

Ekman-Larsson, Oliver $2,346,667

Total $89,921,667

The pieces are all coming together. I'd like to see us take a stab at Bertuzzi , and maybe DeBrusk from Boston. Both should be about $4.5mil, and both could round out the top 6 nicely.

Would have loved to have him on board at just $3 mill/yr, but the term and cap aren’t egregious. I don’t think his play will fall off a cliff, and while I don’t think he’ll keep his shooting percentage, I don’t think he will forget how to score.

Another way to look at it is the club was not going to put us through another experience of Mikheyev on the 2nd line watching him kill scoring chances. The only other viable option, given his salary, was to put him on the 3rd line.

At that point, it becomes a question of whether one would rather have Joshua or Mikheyev on that line - which is a no-brainer. Hell, Joshua scored one more point than Mikheyev. Joshua got a lot - but not all - of Mikheyev’s money. Allvin replaced a player they didn’t want anymore with someone they wanted to keep - and saved some cap space in the process.

Not bad work.

Only $1.5 too high. Someone else should be making these over payments.

Is this the auterity learned from Mik anf Kuz? LOL

What will they give 20 goal scorer CoHog? An Uber to the airport I hope.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

I also thought *finding the next Joshua* was probably the best approach if you wanted more cash to devote to doing something in free agency. A bit of Roussel/Beagle/Dorsett PTSD on this one. (Insofar as its a multiyear move for third liners). I think its both too much and not too much -- here's what I mean -- It's not too much because I think there's someone out there who will want Joshua at this price, and therefore be willing to pay for it. When a guy wouldn't pass through waivers, its like not signing him. Of course, it could become like that if Joshua regresses. It is too much because I think I'd rather have the $$ to increase options to address the top 6 and get least one more reliable D in the fold.

I'm not a Joshua fanboy. I am consistently underwhelmed with his skating (terrible edgework) and lack of readiness. But of course he does some thing well, he did improve last year, and the thing he improved most on last year that I think was most valuable to the team was his PK work and defensive game when defending a lead. These qualities are often second thoughts for fans (and some GMs), but I think signing BlueGill and Joshua evinces a pretty definitive desire to get to a "floor" on PK so its not a "limiting" condition on UFA/trade targets.

As for the DeSmith rumors (are they still rumors?), they don't make a ton of sense because (1) I don't know why DeSmith would want to return unless the offer was the best he could get and (2) I don't think I want to see a goalie salary structure where DeSmith is getting the best he could could. I suppose leverage for signing Silovs makes sense if he's offer sheet eligible. Is he? I don't think he's got enough games, but I might not understand the rules.

I think goalies get a fourth year of waiver exemption UW, not positive on that but I do believe.

this was why I was a bit hesitant to call the 2nd for Mik's cap space a good trade.. if they took that cap and then overspent on someone else.

I don't hate the signing or anything, but it does seem like overpayment and at 4 years we could find ourselves trading another 2nd away in a few years to unload it.

Jay Beagle and Antoine Roussel were quality signings around the same money. 😂😂😂😂

31 even strength points in 63 games. He's 28 and has low miles due to a 4 year college career after the leaves snubbed him finishing his junior career. He finishes his checks, can pk, and was on likely the best third line in hockey and will stick up for teammates.

We get it. Elmer was your guy. The hatred of the new administration is fascinating however.

Maybe reach out to Elmo's nephew the faux Canucks fan and see how he's making out. Dick Stinky or whatever his name was. 99% of the fans are stoked to have decent management for a change.

Go Canucks!

It's soon July so the festivities in Greenwood should be pretty lit, get out there and say hi to the Blackmores. Go for a dip in Christina Lake with your leather vest and have a bottle of moonshine with Jethro and Leon.

Happy Trudeau Day Topper you miserable old prick.,

Peace........ Hargraves is out. 😎

I like the signing too Blob. It's third line money and he's coming off two pretty representative seasons.

AFP had this one right down to the penny: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... 1769332179
