Woke up this morning, still happy with the trade. Of course I would have loved the Canucks to have not retained any salary but 15% is still good.

Out of all the rumours:

Zadorov, Myers, Joshua, Guentzel. Really the only one that really worries me about a potential contract would be Joshua. Really think he will be way overpaid on July 1st.

Wishful thinking time:

21 mil in cap space (rounded up a bit and used Poolman's LTIR)

Zadorov 5.5 mil aav (either 5 or 6 years)
Myers 3 mil aav. (no more than 3 years)
Guentzel 8.5 mil fav (go the distance, 7 years)

total: 17 mil

That would leave 4 mil to fill out the D and find some more plugs for the bottom six. So, good bye Joshua, unless he is willing to go the Blueger route. Those suggested cap hits is as high I would go if I were the Canucks in this situation.

Bud, this team does not want an 8.5 million dollar player. We need DEPTH. Get a couple 4.5 million dollar guys. Thats how we win. We are full of top end contracts.

I am being realistic with the Guentzel rumours, he is probably going to get the offer from the Canucks. Just hope the 'Pitts connection' can get him to take a bit of a discount. Really hope it is not north of 8.5 mil.

28 yr old 3rd line wing who has been a marginal scrub throughout his career except for finding his role at the age of 27 is not worth more than steady 30 yr old 3rd line centre.

Joshua is 28 and has only had 2 full time NHL seasons.

We may see some very expensive contracts handed out July 1st given;

5% plus $300,000 cap increase for upcoming season..

5% cap increase the following season...

NHL Canadian tv deal expires in 2 years...

Utah will generate more revenues to be shared than what Phoenix did...

TV ratings were at record levels this past season...

Regarding Guentzel, Friedman was reporting that Carolina is making a hard push to re sign him so there is a good chance he doesn't get to July 1st unsigned...

Take care...

Don’t like it, instead of a hometown discount he got the fan favourite bump.

Not massively overpaid but think he is over paid by .25 - .5 per year, especially on a 4 year deal.

I dunno, perhaps a hometown discount when you consider what he might have received on the open market.

I was thinking as high as $4M... but that would have been an overpayment by some shit team.

I was hoping to get him at $3M max or find "the next Joshua".

He does have chemistry with Garland and Blueger, he is an asshole, and he is a good PKer.

I dunno, mixed emotions....

Well we knew he was looking north of 3 on the free market. I am surprised by the 4 year term though. Takes him to 31. But he really is the only asshole on the bottom 6.

Our third line is set which is nice I guess. So I am just OK with this signing. I like Joshua but not sure how consistent he can be over the next 4 years. We need him to not take any backward steps and hope last year was not the anomaly before free agency.

The only HW the Canucks need

His shooting percentage from last year seems unsustainable...

With a 4 year term this contract ages pretty well provided his play doesn’t go off a cliff.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..
