Just when it gets heated, regardless of the eloquent, thesis level, or so they think, posts from the regular trollsters, I will keep
popping up with some of my own. The success of Burke and Quin. Why? Because arguing and comparing Gillis and Benning is, well
simply stupid. The eras were different as were the circumstances.

yup. a quick google pulls up a pile of undrafted guys who had great careers. Canucks currently have 5 undrafted players (Stecher, tanev, Beagle, Schaller and Rousell), not including this past week's signings. Worst case, Utica always needs new talent. Gotta feed the meat grinder down there.

I agree. If I read the rules correctly then a NA player is only eligible to be drafted for 2 years. So if they're a late bloomer their value could increase substantially in their post-draft years, and they could be equivalent to a mid-rounder by the time they near college graduation with the added bonus of, as you've said, their skills being easier to gauge.

The fact that they were passed over in the draft several years prior becomes totally irrelevant since it's not really the same player anymore.

I guess it works both ways. If the team feels confident he'll still sign here. He gets another year of growing and expanding his game
and the Canucks will find out if he can continue to stay healthy. That was a horrific injury and he's lucky to have
come back this year at all.

By all accounts everyone agrees he is not NHL ready. He still may not be next year but he seems to have taken the approach that one more year in college will allow him to develop on those things that he sees as key, all while trying to improve his college stats. He obviously sees that there is no short cut for him into the NHL. He also knows that he gets to burn a year on his ELC next season, unless they to the frozen four that is.

Halford, Brough and Botchford were on their usual soapbox this week regarding ‘Lockwoods decision to return to College” as more ammo for their Fire Benning Campaign saying that Lockwood is only doing it so he can go to free agency next year throwing shade at Benning for this decision. “Another pick gone”.
