Nonsense. These guys are available to the highest bidder and were for some reason passed over when draft eligible. They are closer to FA reclamation projects than draft picks.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

popping up with some of my own. The success of Burke and Quin. Why? Because arguing and comparing Gillis and Benning is, well
simply stupid. The eras were different as were the circumstances.
If that don't work, there are always comical pics and gifs and memes.

Will Lockwood on @Sportsnet650 on returning to Michigan : "I talked with Mr Benning and Mr Johnson, things don't change for me, the goal is to still play in Vancouver at the end of next year. I also want to leave a little bit of a legacy in Michigan"
AND
Rick Dhaliwal
@DhaliwalSports
Lockwood on not turning pro : " The decision was more difficult than I thought but the Canucks were very understanding and didn't force me and gave me the time."
So it really was his process and his decision. The plan is to get him signed right after his season ends. No worries.

Or you could argue that they are more valuable than a mid to late round draft pick because they are in their early 20's and like in the NFL its easier to gauge their skills and upside....
Draft an 18 year old in the 4th or 5th or 6th round or sign a 23 and 24 year old who was being developed in college?...
I know when I get to Vegas which odds I'm putting my money on...
Take care..

Re: Canucks Young Guns
yup. a quick google pulls up a pile of undrafted guys who had great careers. Canucks currently have 5 undrafted players (Stecher, tanev, Beagle, Schaller and Rousell), not including this past week's signings. Worst case, Utica always needs new talent. Gotta feed the meat grinder down there.rikster wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 12:29 pmOr you could argue that they are more valuable than a mid to late round draft pick because they are in their early 20's and like in the NFL its easier to gauge their skills and upside....

Re: Canucks Young Guns
I agree. If I read the rules correctly then a NA player is only eligible to be drafted for 2 years. So if they're a late bloomer their value could increase substantially in their post-draft years, and they could be equivalent to a mid-rounder by the time they near college graduation with the added bonus of, as you've said, their skills being easier to gauge.rikster wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 12:29 pmOr you could argue that they are more valuable than a mid to late round draft pick because they are in their early 20's and like in the NFL its easier to gauge their skills and upside....

The fact that they were passed over in the draft several years prior becomes totally irrelevant since it's not really the same player anymore.
Re: Canucks Young Guns
I guess it works both ways. If the team feels confident he'll still sign here. He gets another year of growing and expanding his gameSKYO wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 12:59 pmWise decision, he'll come back stronger next season.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 12:02 pm Rick Dhaliwal

and the Canucks will find out if he can continue to stay healthy. That was a horrific injury and he's lucky to have
come back this year at all.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
By all accounts everyone agrees he is not NHL ready. He still may not be next year but he seems to have taken the approach that one more year in college will allow him to develop on those things that he sees as key, all while trying to improve his college stats. He obviously sees that there is no short cut for him into the NHL. He also knows that he gets to burn a year on his ELC next season, unless they to the frozen four that is.micky107 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 1:06 pmI guess it works both ways. I think one more year against young men in a less physical league will help keep his shoulder in good health.

Halford, Brough and Botchford were on their usual soapbox this week regarding ‘Lockwoods decision to return to College” as more ammo for their Fire Benning Campaign saying that Lockwood is only doing it so he can go to free agency next year throwing shade at Benning for this decision. “Another pick gone”.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 12:02 pm Rick Dhaliwal
