Have a feeling the tune will change pretty quickly on Kane if/when he steps up to the next clown who touches Quinn. Whether you think he's a tough guy or a pretender it really doesn't matter, he will get in there and I think that's all we really want to see.

A couple of games from last year still linger in my mind. The one in Washington when PLD had his way with Quinn and again in Calgary when Lomberg did the same thing. There was no answer. Zero. If we see something like that again, the moment Kane steps up I'm pretty sure we're all gonna get on his side instantly. I don't give a shit if he does something stupid. Get suspended, whatever. Just do something. Would've loved to see him get in those fuckers faces.

Agreed - I think this is making the best of the situation. No good options in free agency, not much help coming from the farm, every trade partner seems to be asking for Willander/D.Petey + 15th OA. Steep price to pay.

Next year a much better UFA crop, perhaps more sellers... good stop gap.

Not sure he's the teams best winger but having a true power forward on the team again puts a smile on my face...

Was hoping that Jamie Benn would return home to sign his swan song contract to join Evander....oh well....

With a number of promotions from the farm to the parent team expected this season and the team lacking any type of protection for them, they need more Kane type of players and like most players of his ilk they can come with some baggage...

I think the Lankinen signing is poor management on so many levels. I won't go through all the obvious ones but want to point out how it illustrates a perspective problem with this management group -- and that is they are hedging against catastrophic failure instead of taking risks that would allow for greater success. Or put otherwise, that they plan for failure instead of success. Demko *might* not be healthy, Silovs *might* not be NHL caliber. So pay for the insurance (at a premium, no less) to establish mediocrity as a floor. But given the size (and inflexibility) of the Lankinen contract, the Canucks are now backed into (1) trading an all star caliber goalie when healthy (into a market only to teams who need a goalie and have a plan b); (2) trading a top prospect goalie (into a market for prospect goalies that is notoriously soft); (3) risking losing Silovs for nothing; $4) carrying 3 goalies which, absent Demko being on the LTIR, isn't good for any of them.

IMO, the obvious thing to do with a team where the Canucks are today (needing + level goaltending for success) is to keep the best goalie and the goalie with a high future ceiling who's proven as much as you could have ever reasonably expected before waivers kick in-- maybe a guy with holes in his game, but one who has shown up on big big stages and has the mentality needed for success if he ever mastered technique. 50% chance Demko is healthy -- win. 50% chance Silovs is average or better if Demko's health is poor (win -- or at least as good as Lankinen). 25% bad health and Silovs is poor -- catastrophic loss. Having Lankinen only helps to mitigate the size of the downside risk in that last scenario, but that risk mitigated isn't making a team that can go anywhere in the playoffs on the off chance they'd get there with Lankinen as the primary starter.

It was a dumb signing given where the Canucks were. It might have been reasonable if the Canucks only needed average goaltending, but that's just not how things sit.

According to PuckPedia, he has a no movement clause for the first two years; limited no trade clause for the final 3 years. So for two years (begining Tuesday) he can't be waived to the minors or traded without his consent. No movement is particularly troubling. There is a history of goalies showing up for a year or two and turning into a pumpkin, or backups playing like starters for a season, and then their game declines. Petersen. Georgiev. Samsonov. Driedger.

Canucks Army saying they have 8.5 million in cap. Shoot Hoglander down to the Sharks for a 3rd. Buyout Chytl and the number goes up substantially.
