Topper is gonna love this one!

I hear Eastvander has reformed.
A dedicated family man now who is great in the community.
Hey, we got the top-6 asshole we were looking for, now let's see that centre baldies!

Players subject to waivers can't just be started in the minors. They have to pass through waivers after not making the team. So trade him or one of the other goalies, or carry three goalies. Those are the options. I can see them carrying all three but only temporarily until a trade is worked out. Of course, another injury to Demko I would change everything.Nuckertuzzi wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 4:57 pm So then, how do you approach next season? I would give Silovs the longest look in preseason to hopefully get a sense, then start him in the minors (assuming you can do this before he's claimable, not sure).
A sad fact - and if he's here for the season, let's hope he here to impress home town fans and other GMs for his next contract.Canuckbröd wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 6:20 am The fact that he immediately becomes our best top 6 winger tells the story.
Not sure he's the teams best winger but having a true power forward on the team again puts a smile on my face...Cornuck wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 7:41 amA sad fact - and if he's here for the season, let's hope he here to impress home town fans and other GMs for his next contract.Canuckbröd wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 6:20 am The fact that he immediately becomes our best top 6 winger tells the story.
I think the Lankinen signing is poor management on so many levels. I won't go through all the obvious ones but want to point out how it illustrates a perspective problem with this management group -- and that is they are hedging against catastrophic failure instead of taking risks that would allow for greater success. Or put otherwise, that they plan for failure instead of success. Demko *might* not be healthy, Silovs *might* not be NHL caliber. So pay for the insurance (at a premium, no less) to establish mediocrity as a floor. But given the size (and inflexibility) of the Lankinen contract, the Canucks are now backed into (1) trading an all star caliber goalie when healthy (into a market only to teams who need a goalie and have a plan b); (2) trading a top prospect goalie (into a market for prospect goalies that is notoriously soft); (3) risking losing Silovs for nothing; $4) carrying 3 goalies which, absent Demko being on the LTIR, isn't good for any of them.5thhorseman wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 7:32 amPlayers subject to waivers can't just be started in the minors. In the playoffs, the raccoon will get ya farther.
According to PuckPedia, he has a no movement clause for the first two years; limited no trade clause for the final 3 years. So for two years (begining Tuesday) he can't be waived to the minors or traded without his consent. No movement is particularly troubling. There is a history of goalies showing up for a year or two and turning into a pumpkin, or backups playing like starters for a season, and then their game declines. Petersen. Georgiev. Samsonov. I might have more of a response later, for now still like to know if Lank has an NMC. If so, it makes the signing even more irresponsible.
5.1 million for the year. They needed a dink. They can use another one.Canuckbröd wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 6:20 am never really a fan of Eastvander but hey,
a 4th round pick (or Podz) for a top 6 asshole who's guaranteed to output 20+ goals and 50-60 points;
comes 5.6 mill / year for 1 year
a homegrown asshole
sounds pretty good to me.
The fact that he immediately becomes our best top 6 winger tells the story.
A great gamble imo.
