Sweden has a real hard way btw. Good luck.
Yeah, Sweden beat Slovakia 5-3, who beat Finland 4-1, who beat Sweden 4-1. All three teams ended up with six points.
With the 5-2 lead we had, Sweden was in first place, but then with three minutes on the clock, Raymond took a stupid penalty,
He had been pushed to the ground by a Slovak, and sitting on the ice he slashed the guy over the shin. The Slovak fell to the ground and the refs called two minutes for slashing. Was it diving? Possibly. Was it stupid of Raymond? Definitely.
With the scores being 5-2, 4-1 and 4-1, all teams had the same points, the same points within the three of them and the same goal differential while Sweden had more goals scored and would win the group.
Of course the Slovaks scored on the powerplay, and now they had better goal differential than Sweden and Finland and won the group with Finland coming in second and Sweden third.
Raymond cost us the game, but up till then he was one of our better players with one goal and a beautiful assist on one of Petey's goals, so there's no use pointing fingers. He was an important part of us winning the game in the first place.
Either way, Latvia is a tough opponent. They're not the most skilled team, but no one plays with more heart than they do.
They regularly beat teams that are better on paper. Let's just hope they won't do that tonight.
And if we do get past Latvia, I think the extra game may actually be beneficial. The play seemed hesitant the first two games, players didn't seem to find eachother on the ice. It looked much better against Slovakia. The added game may help the team gel and have us better prepared for the quarter final.
