Speed. There are guys in the AHL who can skate ate NHL pace and there are guys in the AHL that can see the game at NHL pace. It is being able to do both.

My take on Hronek, the lower body injury has been nagging (why wasn't it looked after in the off season - something for Jeff Patterson to ask him) and the shoulder will take more time than anticipated so there is time to get both sorted out.
Great point by BB about seeing the game at that speed and that it is different skill than skating at the pace. Helps explain relative busts like Virtanen. You can be armed to the teeth but if you don’t recognize where the threat is in time, it is useless. It’s one of the harder things for scouts to project, I imagine. Higher or lower game IQ is noticeable at lower levels and while that likely correlates somewhat with game processing speed, I imagine every individual has a different limit.

As for Hronek, it makes all the sense in the world to take care of something nagging when you are out for other reasons. One reason you might not attend to it in the summer is that it could be something that could dissipate and it just didn’t. There are about 58 million other reasons one might want to downplay it in the summer.
The Legend of Omaha Donna made me think of Virtanen

I don't see Hronek listed as LTIR. Cap implications?

There is no reason to place Hronek on LTIR.

(and a couple of reasons not to)

I knew there was no reason for replacement purposes, but trying to understand the cap accrument implications of if he was on or off LTIR

If Allvin should acquire a player that would put the team over the cap, then Hronek would be placed on LTIR. But as it stands, the team is below the cap and can still bring up a replacement player (Friedman) and still be under. The more the team stays under the cap, the more cap can then be accrued.

Once Demko and Miller return in the next week or two, one goalie and one forward will then be sent to Abby to clear roster space, which will also lower the total cap hit of the team.

I think they've probably got a deal or 2 worked out in principle already. They're just waiting for the team to gel and starting winning enough to justify flushing picks out.

There are promising signs mixed with absurdly poor stretches. It's probably maddening for the baldersons

Yes we accrue zero if we are using LTIR.

Yes we have no bananas.

But then what would happen when Hronek comes off LTIR (February).

Now if they were to pull off a Mark Stone, that would be different.

Right.

If Demko returns and blows the shit out of his knee, Mark Stone scenario now becomes an option.

As it stands, Allvin’s mandate has been to stay off LTIR, I don’t see him changing course unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Hah, well that interesting.

So Sass was sent down yesterday to accrue, but recalled today along with Lekk and McWard.

I wonder what the thought process is with this?

I don’t know about that. One of the benefits of having the farm team so close is allowing the kids to practice with the big club.

He was just finding his groove for Abby the first time then we watched his confidence taper off. He hadnt regained his pre-call up form yet so bringing him back seems counterproductive to developing him to be a top player.

I would've like to see him marinate all year and see what he looks like in March or April

*If he's coming up just to practice and earn a fat wad then no worries

Off day to go home to the valley then back on the Skytrain for practice today
