Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Related to the injury he had when acquired?

Only thing that makes sense topper…. So has he been playing somewhat hampered since acquisition then? Maybe in 8 weeks we have the monster we wanted originally… :eh:

He's more banged-up than a '73 Pinto at a demolition derby!

Monahan too.

You think you know how good these guys are and then you step on the ice with them and it's an even different story.
Even the guys that don’t make it are just so much better than everyone else. Around here, the good players are those guys in their 20s that played D-3 or the occasional bench warmer D-1 in college. They were all good, hard shots with quick releases, endurance to play all day against older guys, speed, a handful of moves. But it was all stuff you can imagine, they were just an adult version of that best kids on your team in youth. But I remember playing pickup several times with Stephen Werner, a 3d or 4th round pick who played on a line with Kesler on that first USA WJC team that won, and it was a totally different thing. Now this was the same year as the wjc, but in the summer. What was crazy was lateral mobility, the ability to do all the handsy stuff at high speed, and the ability to accelerate through turns. And this guy never made it, never was even that successful at D-1. But it was a completely different tier.

But he did get a gold medal. 😊

Back to Boudreau on Spittin' Chiclets when asked the biggest difference between AHL and NHL.

Speed. There are guys in the AHL who can skate ate NHL pace and there are guys in the AHL that can see the game at NHL pace. It is being able to do both.

My take on Hronek, the lower body injury has been nagging (why wasn't it looked after in the off season - something for Jeff Patterson to ask him) and the shoulder will take more time than anticipated so there is time to get both sorted out.

Great point by BB about seeing the game at that speed and that it is different skill than skating at the pace. Helps explain relative busts like Virtanen. You can be armed to the teeth but if you don’t recognize where the threat is in time, it is useless. It’s one of the harder things for scouts to project, I imagine. Higher or lower game IQ is noticeable at lower levels and while that likely correlates somewhat with game processing speed, I imagine every individual has a different limit.

As for Hronek, it makes all the sense in the world to take care of something nagging when you are out for other reasons. One reason you might not attend to it in the summer is that it could be something that could dissipate and it just didn’t. There are about 58 million other reasons one might want to downplay it in the summer.

...to add to that the human factor can kick in.

The "I can fix him" or "I'll make a player out of him" guys have been around since the dawn of time.

Boudreau also drew the analogy between ECHL and AHL being a similar comparable difference dynamic to the A and the show.

Topper is right.

It was a solid interview and Bruce has a shitload of entertaining old school stories.

Even Jello might have enjoyed it.

The bad side was Jeff Marek was co-hosting and he's a self-absorbed poser.

Speaking of chicklets, I really enjoyed the Luongo interview from a couple weeks ago. He is a funny dude as well, with awesome insight into the cup run.

Agreed MCP.

What I found very interesting, outside of the Red Wing offer sheet news, was that he has reached a point in his life where he readily and willingly admits he was a basket case of a goalie.

We all knew at the time of course.

And yeah, he's a funny Dude.

Hordichuk and the Alligator lol.
