Other Sports....non hockey

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Nice to beat the old nemesis Sounders to do so as well.

Helluva goal differential for Vancouver this season.

Always satisfying to win against the Sounders considering how they beat us like the redheaded stepchild for years, like the 80s Oilers and Flames did in hockey.

...and that was even before the MLS.

We were discussing the chance of death or permanent incapacitation from an illegal or cheap hit on the main board the other day (after Brandt Clarke was hunted down and levelled by Hayden Hodgson)...

This dude died...

They are now talking about prosecution for involuntary manslaughter.

Be interesting to see where this goes.

Professional soccer players in the UK have won a reprieve, for now, on how their earnings are taxed...

Currently, as is the case in Canada and the US, a players playing contract is taxed as personal income...

Their earnings from image and sponsorship deals can be taxed as business income, so players incorporate and use the various write offs available to reduce their taxable income, not to mention the tax rate...

The new UK Government wants to change this to make all earnings, regardless of the sources, personal income in order to increase the taxes paid but have delayed implementing the change in response to lobbying from the Premiere League and Womens Super League who are arguing that such a change would have a significant impact on the league’s competitiveness....

Andreas Almgren, who won the half marathon world championship in Copenhhagen about a month ago and now the New York Marathon, has changed the image of what a long distance runner may look like. You don't have to be from East Africa.

I found that result so amazing, I looked him up.

He is a training and nutrition innovator.

Looking more carefully at why east Africans have dominated in the past, I still expect them to be heavily represented on the podium of long-distance races, but maybe Almgren's research will give more people from anywhere else a chance in these events.
