A priest, a rabbi, and a clergyman walk into a bar

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

What’s the similarity between the Titanic and the Vancouver Canucks?
They both look fine till they hit the ice.

Be better if it was the leaves, both at the bottom of the Atlantic.

I'm well, we are safe from the current fires. Also not in wetspank!

The Summerland one is the closest. The past couple days the skies have been nice and clear which is great, sounds like most fires are now contained or expected to be shortly.

Oh forgive my insolence. I thought you were set up there for some reason.

I did my time there and can say it wasn't the ball that you think it might be. Its what "surrey-on-the-lake" used to be before the rich booted everyone out of their trailer parks

I'm on the Kelowna side, I can see the westside from my house but hate going over that bridge.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

My feed this week is plagued with people in an uproar about the Shane Gillis monologue on SNL over the weekend. It's always strange when people get upset over jokes. I like what Mark Normand has to say about it.

It was far from offensive. It wasn't really all that funny either. Too bad cuz he has had some good routines.

But , he does provide a good reason to go back to the gym.

Just got around to watching it. Yeah, not his best work but not offensive either. So he said whore. So what. I guess it doesn't help that he comes across as a maga kind of guy. I don't know what his politics are but I don't care. I like his comedy.

Doesn't help? It is probably the only reason for Manufactured Outrage.

Sydney Sweeney sells jeans and sports betting by dressing provocatively (or not dressing at all....), and she's part of the Patriarchy, her use of sex appeal rolling back gender equality or some such thing. Why? She's MAGA coded.

MAGA coded dude tells a joke about women dressing provocatively at the gym in a way that is critical of it? Part of the Patriarchy, rolling back gender equality or some such thing. Why? MAGA coded.

Honestly, I haven't a clue as to whether either Sweeney or Gillis are MAGA. Sweeney teases it, and knows she gets more attention from that kind of performance than being a Performative Liberal Hollywood Tut Tutter. Gillis is a comedian who makes fun of people and things and would prefer not to limit his potential subject matter or audience.

But I think it says a lot about the Outrage class that whether their target is MAGA coded changes their views as to whether dressing like a whore is liberation or subjugation, and whether being critical of people who dress like whores is liberation or subjugation.

So, in a microcosm, everyone is pushing everyone else's buttons for "clicks" and attention therefore "bucks" or power...

Like the red guys and the blue guys do as well.

The wheels on the bus....

(....my hope is that 85% of the general population have had enough and literally don't give a fuck ... the downside to that being vocal ambivalence, be that at the voting booth or standing up for friends and neighbours...)

...go round and round.

Definitely is a game played by all. Definitely is (or can be) mutually beneficial outrage if it creates a positive feedback loop of attention (description of the nature of the feedback loop, not a normative value on it).

Your hope (and the possible tradeoff risk) is spot on. Silent majorities may exist but it doesn't take majorities to change culture or even governments when healthy not giving a fuck manifests as sleeping in on test day.
