Why not partner with one (or more) of VW, Hyundai, GM, or Rivian, and pour into their development and manufacture shit here? Sure, China looks to dominate, but why not compete with them instead of getting in bed with a country that wants to use their state ownership of corporation to create in-roads and dominate our political sphere?

Who is "we" in this context Mëds? Is it our government? Or a private company?

Government opens the doors allows development without strangling constricted permit requirements. Then private in conjunction with an experienced EV company..

New production/assembly is going to the US South and Mexico due to lower labour costs. The government is going to have to do more that just relax permitting requirements. This is what trade deals are for and we would need to give something up.

Promoting Canada as an R&D centre is a bit more complicated. Long term I think we need to keep funding education, subsidise R&D at the university level, and maybe scoop up international talent that the US is discouraging with their immigration policies.

Chinese (and other foreign) purchases of real-estate, coupled with restrictive permitting and asinine treaty concessions (both government areas of responsibility) are the primary drivers of our ridiculous costs of housing (and living, cough cough, farm quotas, cough, supply chain) which necessitates higher wages and drives private costs.

Change out the asshat Liberals and that way of doing things, and start making Canada something worthwhile again.

I posted about this a month or more ago as the case was on the docket for the Supreme Court of Canada.

Democracy Watch was challenging Canada's Ethics Laws that prevent Judicial review decisions made by Canada's Ethics Commissioner. The case revolved around the Ethics Commissioner clearing Justin Trudeau of any ethics violation during the WE Scandal.

Recall Justin handed over 100's of millions to the WE Charity to run Canada's youth programs during COVID. Justin was close friends with the brothers running the charity and had done paid speaking engagements for them before he entered politics. His wife was and Ambassador for the Charity, his brother and mother were both regular paid speakers for the group, His then Finance Minister resigned over the affair when it became known his daughter worked for the charity.

To no real surprise, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously that part of the Ethics Law that bans judicial review is unconstitutional. The Public must be allowed it's Day In Court and the Supreme Court of Canada is the final arbiter.

This has far reaching ramifications.

The Conservative Party of Canada has openly discussed limiting court challenges to resource and development projects. David Eby has been a fan of limiting court challenges. Probably his most high profile is ICBC.
