Re: AROUND THE LEAGUE - 26-27
Most likely true.
The idea of Lekkerimaki plus a sweetener for Wright only fits because they are both 2022 1st rounders. I think you toss in the 2nd because Wright was selected 10 spots higher and has proven he can play a regular shift in the bigs.
Any team paying more value than that is, imho, overpaying.

Yandle stating on Chiclets that a little birdie told him that Gauthier's agent is telling Verbeek not a dollar less than Carlssons 18 mill.....
Lol if true.
A fine mess we've made little ball....remember what happened to little finger!!!!

Shouldn't be an issue trying to shed $9m in cap space!

Re: AROUND THE LEAGUE - 26-27
Always one of the side effects of matching Carlsson. The cascade to other Duck contracts. First, Minky, then Gauthier. At least they locked up LaCombe.
To be sure, that Carlsson contract will effect all RFA deals, but there’s something about guys on your team producing the same or less and getting paid more that makes things break down. Where have we seen that?

Re: AROUND THE LEAGUE - 26-27
The difference here is that Carlsson drives the offense, Gauthier rides shotgun and is more of a Laine-type scorer.
Nobody would offer sheet Gauthier to the tune of $18M.

According to Puckpedia, Cutter is offer sheet ineligible anyways.
So he signs or sits, I'm assuming he didn't file for arbitration?
Cutter may have to settle for a short term show me deal for now.

Gauthier was one of those college players that leave school in the spring and burn a year off their ELC by playing some games late in the season. They fall under something called category 10.2 c and are ineligible to recieve offer sheets. I think Quinn Hughes was in this category as well.
let's run it back

As did Brock, iircMegaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2026 8:14 pmGauthier was one of those college players that leave school in the spring and burn a year off their ELC by playing some games late in the season. On another note, Zeev played his first 4 NHL games in the post season. Does this apply to him, too?

At this point in Wrights and Lekkerimakis career a straight up swap is reasonable.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2026 8:31 am I would do Lekkerimaki for Wright. Both come with high potential. Both have not reached "star" status but still hold that potential. To me that would be a fair swap.
Wright has a lot of what RJ likes.
He captained the WJ team in U17, U18, U20 teams. The 2021 U18 won gold. The 2023 U20 won gold.
He was also named captain of Kingston at the age of 17.
RJ has said a few times how he values players who have worn letters.
2nd rd picks are a bit of a long shot, but you never know when your going to get that Laine Hutson, Matthew Poitrias, Ryan Greene, Fraser Mintin type player in the 2nd rd.
Alot of these proposals stink of Bearcheese and Benning type strategy.
It's all about the lowered expectations
