Looks like Leaves gonna sign and trade for Raddysh and hook the lad up at 8x8+.

Quite the commitment for a 30 year old player with 243 games and a single breakout season under his belt.

He's a native Torontonian so the fans can have their next Marner kewpie vvoodoo doll mayhap.

Be interesting to see the Reilly escapades forthcoming...

Puckpedia shows it as $8.5x8, and Toronto sent a 5th back to get the extra year.

Be interesting how he looks in 3 or 4 years.. this might age like a fine Eriksson

This also smells of TO going for a quick fix on D for McKenna's arrival. They just need shitty goaltending to be a light version of the Oilers.

They are stacking likely useless future seasons to get the player they want for the next few seasons. They did the same with Tanev.

Raddysh may be a risk because of his unusual development curve and the Tampa Bay magic dust, but he was a first pairing D last season and you aren’t going to get that kind of production/ice time for $8.5 million unless there’s a big possible downside (and with age alone, a fully expected decline).

They may think there’s always going to be cap dump options. And they always have a job ready for the player ready to retire….

I don’t think it’s behavior to emulate. But if you are going to try to “win for Austin,” well, this is a move that helps that a lot.

Still, what good does a 3-6 finish in the Atlantic really get you…..

Maybe...unless the player returns to the mean of a 35 point dude.

20 playoff games with 2G 2A at least fits into the Leave mold.

In which case he will join OEL and Rielly as the Laffs most productive offensive defensemen.

Last year was the first that he played top pairing minutes. I watched about 10 Bolts regular season games this year and most of their (short run) in the playoffs. Based on the games I saw, he earned the minutes -- offense, transition is his strength, but he's not a liability defensively. Like a peak Hedman? Heck no. He's on the Dan Boyle trajectory of things (also undrafted offensive D who didn't really impact the NHL until he was older (but still younger than Raddysh....)).

Its a very unusual career path. Late bloomer is an understatement. But over the years, there are unicorns, that scouts didn't love when they were 18/19 but kept improving and proving themselves and that never-give-up-on-it disposition is part of the reason they bend the curves.

I think the move makes the Laffs less laughable. I expect some decline in Raddysh's game from last season's performance, I expect the contract to look bad at some point because of age, I expect it to mean next to nothing for the Laffs because the division is so competitive and two of the stronger teams (Montreal and Buffalo) seem to be just getting started in their windows. And because the Panthers and Lightning are still better, and the Bruins and Senators are in the same zip code, and even Detroit is probably more likely to sacrifice the future for meaningless points now than to come to Jesus. And it is a law of nature that the Laffs will make dumb decisions.

But I like the player.

I will say this about Raddysh, he's got a cannon of a shot. He wasn't just cashing in on Kucherov's talent at all. He's a good player right now for sure.

8 years though...like someone pointed out a few posts back, they're buying his "now game" and paying the ghost later when it all goes down the the torontoilet shitter

Buffalo just picked up the Oiler's 20th OA from San Jose for Kesselring and their 27th OA pick. Tidy work by Buffalo to dump some cap and move up 7 spots. Buffalo still has about $10 million to dump/trade if CapWages is accurate, unless Tuch just walks as a UFA.

I understand the leaves wanting Raddysh, but the sign/trade with a 5th just to get the 8th year makes little sense. Yes, Toronto gets their guy, but they would have likely grabbed him as a UFA with only 7 years (4 would have been the logical length) on July 1st. This contract should age like old socks. The real question should be "Do you think he could score on Dave Ayres?"

Remember the stories about Chayka having multiple computer monitors on his desk that were dummy screens to make him look busier and smarter than he actually was?

That may help people understand his "logic" lol

Sign and trade deals are relatively rare, and much rarer than many here believe.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.
