Wasn't DeBrusk reportedly vocal about not wanting to hang around for a rebuild?
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Yes he was asked how he felt once the Canucks actually used the rebuild word. He responded that that wasn’t what he signed up for. He did walk it back later. But I think it is clear he would probably welcome a trade but he controls where to.

We’ll know once he’s traded. From what RJ said about talking to every player and asking them if they want to be a Canuck - knowing what the next couple years will be - I wager they will facilitate the exit of anybody who doesn’t want to be there. I don’t see them being dicks about it anyway, some of those players will likely have trade protection and RJ still has to establish a rep amongst players and agents as an NHL GM. Dicking his own players around wouldn’t make the best first-impressIon. Some of these trades will likely be to get them out of the room vice trying to squeeze as much return on trade.

They have enough “nice guys” in management now. I don’t think treating players unfairly is going to be a problem. I think RJ needs to be demanding for the club’s benefit and a tough negotiator. If that makes him a bit of a dick in agents view, so be it. Letting players demand this team or that to be traded to is a losing strategy. The players they want will want to play in Vancouver when the team is winning, not when the GM is coddling them, and acquiescing to their every demand.

I just hope they hire Mike Gillis to come back and be an AGM. That would be grand.

Too bad there's likely bad blood with the Italians and him which means it'll never happen

GMMG has said that, at his age and stage of career, he wants to be in a PoHO role where he is providing guidance and mentoring rather than in the daily grind of things. Gillis allegedly didn't end up in Toronto because they didn't want a PoHO/GM model, so there was no mutual interest in him landing in the CoTU with MLSE.

It will be very interesting to see what the roster looks like between now and October.

I would not be surprised to see DeBrusk and M. Pettersson as the veterans that don't want to stick around, and, looking at their cap hits and term, I could see them being a return that doesn't outright suck.

I could see Scooter being open to a fresh start, but his value is at an all-time low, and his full NMC limits suitors unless he just says "get me the fuck out and I don't care where".

I could see Lankinen being willing to move, but nobody is taking that albatross contract for a backup goaltender.

Demko is a wildcard. He might want out, but he might want to stay.....also, his medical history makes him difficult to move.

There's no value to me in that unless the Mods decide to let Chef and Blob back on the board.

I could imagine a world in which they think it would be worth their while -- for brief period.

Absolutely it would be the obvious next move for the chat board.

It's how Doc would have wanted it...

Canucks extend Cole Clayton, one year, two way deal.

Marcus Pettersson’s agent shuts down trade rumours saying his desire is to stay in Vancouver. He has not asked for a trade and likes the direction the team is heading in.

We can imagine how his chat with RJ went, then.

They can't sell everybody.

He has a good contract and is a consistent point producer. Is this just internet bs or am I missing something.
Aspirational rumor-mongering by freelance journo-fans, perhaps.
Some of these guys just use some AI shit to see what is trending right here in the Corner, read one comment, and then make up their own stories. Like this snippet from some hockey talking dudes we all know. “ A name that makes plenty of sense here is Troy Stecher, who recently expressed some interest in rejoining his hometown team“ . I think we pretty much killed any idea of Troy coming here, at least not as one of our top 5 options for that spot.

Those trolls get paid per fricking article, or by word count, so they write a lot of poorly written and regurgitated crap. Love him or hate him, Don Henley was right when he sang “Crap is King”, but it all feeds the Algorithm.

If we traded Hronek and MPete, or a couple of injuries, and we could run a defence next year consisting of

Buium (76) Willander (70)
DPete(98) Mancini (55)
Mynio (0) Kudryavtsev (5)
Schenn (1122)

Gawd, good thing I am not the GM. Schenn raises our average games per player from *cough* 50 to a respectable 200.

Gallagher and Schenn looking to retire on the coast. That’s nice for them, but doesn’t help the Canucks. They both know they’re done and no contender will want them. They will have very little trade value, and take up minutes better used by the kids. Unless the Canucks are getting a first rounder with the player to eat a contract, I don’t see the point. There are character guys who will have better trade value they can eat a contract for.
