Just Not ready

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

NDP MP just went to the Libs. Have we ever seen this many floor crossers in such a short time?

I don't think we have.

My guess is this is what happens when a centrist-right leaning leader is elected in Canada, when the other two parties' leadership is non-existent. One literally, one figuratively.

We have seen it before, but this is the first time we have seen it where it could change the Government from a minority to a majority. And it's the first time that the media is championing the story, instead of just reporting on it.

He's been a long regarded centrist who was appointed by the Harper gov to run the BoC so that's as close to being a conservative as it gets without stepping across that line

I think, as a country's leader should - he leans different ways on various subjects, but when it comes to certain policies, he is certainly centrist-right, as I mentioned.

- Boosting defense spending
- Defunding the CBC
- Removal of the Consumer Carbon Tax
- Suspending CER
- Re-introducing Tax Credit for LNG projects
- Removing environmental grants, such as the Green-home initiative, EV grant etc.

I've just listed some of the lesser ones - but as you are more than likely aware, there are significant de-regulation portions of his cutting of Government spending, including within the Environmental agencies etc. Along with by-passing regulations for large-scale development of "major projects" such as environmental assessment, impact assessments etc.

I think people on both sides of the fence would see those as mostly positive moves for the country, and if PP had implemented any of them, would be cheered by the right. No?

I'm not claiming anything. Just presenting policies that have been outlined by Carney.

Strange for us to agree on anything, but I would certainly be the +4 after Reef on that comment.

I will qualify that as saying that a leader in a true democracy should lean the way of the people so long as it is not compromising morals, ethics, and economic wellbeing of the nation.

I’m holding out hope that his waffling on certain things (Iran situation most recently example) is driven by his relative infancy in an elected position and the fact that his party still has many Trudeau holdovers who would not support him in certain things if he leans too far away from the left towards the middle.

I don’t care what anyone’s opinion is of Israel and their actions as a nation towards their neighbors…..the antisemitism we are seeming in Canada should stamped out immediately. I’m hearing nothing it crickets from the Liberals on that. Likely because they are afraid that standing up for Canadian citizens with a Jewish heritage will be seen as endorsing Israel’s wars. Which is bullshit. If the Libs can endorse and defend Canadian Islamic’s and Sikh’s, despite the atrocities committed by their extremist groups, the acts of terror, the crimes against humanity perpetrated by Muslim governments (most notably right now Iran), then the same should go for Israeli-Canadians. But it doesn’t.

There are judges at every level applying laws different based upon race and gender…..identity politics becoming identity law. Where is the firm stance for equality of justice? Justice should be blind to race, gender, and creed.

In his alleged right-leaning economics. Sorry. But rebranding certain expenses as capital spending instead of deficit spending is not winning my confidence that he’s anything other than what we’ve seen for the past 11 years.

I take that partially back. Some of the things you listed are (for the better) definitely not what we saw from 2015 to 2025. However, as you say, these are policies he has outlined, it remains to be seen if they go beyond the outlining process.

With the caveat that I'm not that well read up on Canadian politics, from an outside view it would certainly seem that within the liberal spectrum (which is quite wide) Trudeau is more left wing and Carney more right wing.
