Is Mark Carney sliding towards Fascism?

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

What were some of the authoritarian laws/policies from the Harper government?
His silencing of Gov. scientists was the first stone that tipped the scales, and lost my vote.

Very authoritarian.
Hmmm.....sounds exactly like what happened during the Covid pandemic.
I'm failing to see what that has to do with Harper or Carney Mëds.

Thought so.

What is wrong with Canada Post opening my mail? Or my IP provider sharing my subscription info? Or the government charging me with hate crimes for ever changing definitions of a hate symbol?

If you are refering to the LIch trial, she was tried by a judge and was found guilty of mischief and aquitted of 5 other charges...

It's interesting that you seem more concerned for the perpetrator than the victims?
Estimated Costs to Businesses

Daily losses: Experts estimated that downtown Ottawa businesses lost millions of dollars per day in sales and wages while the protest occupied the core.

Total range: Retail analysts calculated the overall impact at $44 million to $200 million in lost sales and wages over the 23-day occupation.

Rideau Centre closure: The city’s largest mall, the Rideau Centre, was forced to close for more than three weeks, costing retailers and employees significant income.

Small businesses: Restaurants, cafés, and shops in Centretown and ByWard Market reported severe losses, with some saying they were pushed to the brink of closure.

Impact on Individuals

Workers: Thousands of employees lost wages due to closures and reduced hours.

Residents: Many residents reported costs related to disrupted daily life, including transportation, noise, and access to services.

City services: Ottawa itself spent over $36 million on policing and operational costs during the protest.
All of this because a small percentage of the population disagreed with a vacccine mandate...

No. I was referring to bills C2, C8 and C9. Nothing to do with Lich.

Regarding Lich and Barber, I am ok with the sentences. I do take issue with her being in jail for as long as she was before being convicted. I am even more bothered by the Government never speaking to the convoy. They just condemned every member, and never listened, let alone addressed the concerns. Had the government behaved like they do for every other group, it could have possibly been resolved. The government failed Canadians with their disregard for concerns of the convoy protesters.

Pretty much sums it up for me as well Tciso.

Freezing bank account threats were kind of lame as well.

A buddy of mine donated a few K to the Convoy.

His entire existence is different now in terms of his sense of personal well being.

That's all I'm gonna say about that in front of God and everyone....

How much business was lost because of the pandemic lockdown?

How many people lost jobs and suffered a change in lifestyle because of vaccine mandates?

How much taxpayer money was funnelled out of the country and directly into big pharma for a vaccine that didn’t actually work, an was proven largely obsolete because of rapid viral mutations?

The protest, whether you agreed with it or not, represented something that every single Canadian values, even if they are too blinded by fear to realize it…..freedom and autonomy over one’s own body. The Liberal government was not backing off on anything despite mounting evidence of the impotence of their many measures. The traction that the convoy got surprised many people, the support and attention it garnered internationally spoke volumes.

There were American people during the American War of Independence who held the same opinion of the revolutionaries that you hold of the Trucker Convoy participants.

I have similar concerns. I donated to Mark Norman's legal defense. Am I on a watch list? Is GoFundMe going to be a way of compiling lists of people the government disagrees with? That's Bill C8, if you care.

The vaccines were roughly 90-95% effective against the original strain, and gave reasonably good protection, I seem to recall having heard roughly 60-70% efficiency, against later strains. And even in those that fell ill despite having had the vaccine, the severity of the infection was reduced compared to those that had not been vaccinated.

Unfortunately my wife and I did not have access to the vaccine. We fell sick when it had just arrived and was still only distributed to first line hospital staff and risk groups. They made it available for people over the age of 65 the week before we fell ill. We were both 57. My wife ended up dead and I spent two weeks at the ICU, whereof ten days in an induced coma on a ventilator. All in all I spent six weeks in the hospital. I was on full sick leave for 3 months, then started working 25%, and eventually, eleven months after reporting sick, I was back to working full time. Covid was a bitch.

I'm fully convinced that if we had had access to the vaccine we would have been fine.
The vaccines saved millions of lives. Unfortunately my wife wasn't one of them.

This is a meta-analysys of 33 different studies:
The overall VE of a complete primary series for severe outcomes due to any variant was 87.4%, with 93.3% for pre-Omicron and 62.8% for Omicron strains. Protection against severe outcomes declined less than for infection. 6 months after the primary series, the vaccine still provided over 50% protection against severe outcomes caused by Omicron. Boosters restored VE to 87.9% and maintained at 78.5% after 3 months.

Not to get into the good discussion currently going on but what are your thoughts on Carney/Smith announcement of an MOU. Sounds like a lot of typical political BS with no substance behind it. Smith looks good for her party and Carney looks good in Alberta yet from my understanding there is no real plan to build the new pipeline. Even if there is one, there is no private sector coming in to fund this (do I sound like Eby)?

Where is Tops when we need him :?:
