MacEwan is a punching bag. He's going to get seriously hurt out there on day. Reminds me of Aaron Volpatti. Its creeping back into the league though. Tampa has some huge monster now.

DeLevering since 1999.

I wish we kept Jonah Godjanovich. Which former coach of the Canucks was intimidated by his manliness?

And Allvin was one of the 31 GM's who didn't sign him when San Jose didn't qualify him. I think Florida put him through waivers once after that as well.
Nothing against Gadjovich. But players like him are always there for the taking. The question is whether that's the kind of fourth line player your team needs or wants, and whether you can envision things for him (like killing penalties) that others did not which make his spot in the lineup just that much more useful.

The back to back champs seem to have found a use for Gadjovich. Bill Zito seems like he might know what he's doing. And really, we can't overstate the contribution Justin Dowling made after Gadjovich was cut loose.

Hard to imagine JG was the but-for cause of the Cups, but the point you make here IMO says more about coaching that GMing. I mean, a good GM and coaching staff (and when younger, development staff) need to work as a unit. That Florida improved JG from bubble NHLer to just above the bubble says a lot to me about how he fits into their design and also some insight (as I mentioned) into expanding his toolkit to include some PK.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 12:41 pm The back to back champs seem to have found a use for Gadjovich. First point, not every team is going to run the Florida model and benefit most from the players Florida shined up. It isn't the only successful model of how to play, and any team trying to mime it instead of beat it is going to be worse than Florida at Florida's own game from the foreseeable future. Because Florida is the best at it.
Second point, if you are the GM and your coaching and development staff is poor, the fact you kept them on is a much bigger problem than a decision about JG. And then all you can do about it is turn over coaching and some development -- which was done after JG was waived.
Third point, on the marginal players are still a replaceable bit. JG gone, Dak came in. Joshua's first two years here (making nothing) provided better performance than JG, and DJ was brought in for the role JG might have had (and outperformed how JG performed in FLA). DAk then got paid and they wanted more from him (didn't get it), so brought in Sherwood. To be sure, double the salary than JG, but also double the player in his first season.

I don't disagreeith much you said UW. I guess I'm a bit of a neanderthal in that I appreciate having a decent face puncher around as a deterrent.

Of similar mind. I would agree with UW talking about how FLA’s coaching likely got Gadjovich where he is today. Fighting will not die in this sport IMO, and unless the league outright bans it (and they won’t) having someone who is willing and able to beat on people as a deterrent measure will always have elevated value - if they can play. I’m not sure how much development coaching was invested in JG in Vancouver - or anywhere else before Florida.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 3:34 pm I don't disagreeith much you said UW. Gadjovich is just an example (Joshua is another, although his deterrent value was questionable) of why Vancouver should keep investing in young players who are willing and able to play that role well.
