Yeah, that was during a rebuild.

Finishing low in the standings, resulting in high draft picks, is the way to go in a rebuild.

Are you new to professional sports sir?

BTW, that particular rebuild is over, have a pleasant evening...

Trade deadline is sixty two games, $8.77 Million to Scooter to give him time to figure it out.

LOL

Some saw the lack of ability to push through checks over a year ago and noted that was a huge issue going into last season. I even asked when opponents would realize that they really didn't have a need to match up against him and neutralize him.

I have never liked his contract, thought he was overpaid by at least a million per year. However, I had no say in the matter.

Just trying to suggest a best course of action from here on.

Someone posted a loooooong thread regarding Pettersson? Prey tell Cheeseburger Whisperer, where can I find it?

You talking about sports is rich. You have no experience participating in them. Maybe Dungeons and Dragons is more your pace

Agree. I would probably give it until TDL, if he hasn't sorted itself out I would try to trade him (lay the ground work a few weeks earlier) while other teams think he just needs a change of scenery too and would be willing to go all in to get him.

Below is just and example of a trade:

To Columbus: Petey

To Vancouver: Fantilli, '25 1st, high mid round pick (2nd/3rd), Decent forward and/or 2nd pairing D.

Using Columbus as an example here as they have a lot of cap space now and would probably want to get there hands on a potential franchise player they could market the hell out of for their fan base.
If we decide to trade Petey it's because he never got out of this funk by the time of the trade, and so I would be quite surprised if anyone is giving up those kind of assets for a player who is on 11.6x8 and isn't living up to it. We'd be making a trade first and foremost to get out of that contract.

And if we aren't getting a 1st line center back in return, we might as well start the rebuild again. We have no centers in the system anywhere close to 1st line franchise. Miller might not be good enough this year to be a top line center on a true playoff contender, never mind for years to come.

To me, it's frustrating looking at EP40, like he's a prospect almost ready to break out. "Oooh! He made a good play there, looked confident! Wow - his skating is looking better" FFS.
He's still a PPG player (exactly 1ppg as of today), has over 400 games under his belt, and should know what to do at this point.

What ever happened last season, we wanted to write off as 'head case Petey' and hoped for a return to the star player who signed a massive contract. Now we're 10 games in with more of the same...

As bad as it is for us fans, I can't imagine the frustration building in the people who approved, signed and paid for the contract.

I'm not on the "Trade him now" bandwagon, but if I were running the show, I'd also be taking calls.

What do you think you'd get for him though Corn?

Like it or not we came out of our rebuild largely because of our top 3 positions being considered filled: 1C, 1D, vezina caliber goalie.

Our Goalie is a huge question mark at this point, and if our 1C is traded at an extreme low point in value, how are we positioned to win the cup?

I'm of the position that hate it or not, we have to stick with him unless I'm wrong and some team is going to give us their 1C or future 1C for him. We aren't in a position for him to not work out unless we are ready to rebuild (or significantly retool)

In Pettersson's case I don't think the NMC is quite as ominous as it might seem.

If he can't get his game together here I don't think he would dig his heels in to stick around the fishbowl and face the music from the fans and media..

I'm sure he would be really choosy about destination, but I don't see him as an immovable object.

I don't think so either, but I don't think he brings us back what we need to keep our window open

Yes, and after only one good season it still remains to be seen what the window really looks like.

Stop fucking coddling him. He's 26, in his 7th season, has 400 games. He isn't a rookie/sophomore kid anymore. Time for him to man up.

Haul him out behind the woodshed then park his ass on the bench for 20 minutes.

Hilarious on HNIC when Freedman had written Miller et al had been instructed to fire him up then Bieksa and Hrudi, guys who actually played, said that isn't the way it is done. Bieksa flat out said it is not his job to motivate his team mate. If a guy in the NHL needs his team mates to motivate him, he doesn't belong.

At this point, if we trade him, it's a cap dump, with a quality player coming back.

Our window was wide open last year, and even EP40 stalling we were still in there. Then Demko went down, and it was a huge accomplishment to do what we did. So like you say, a year ago we had 1C, 1D, 1G looking great - now we have 1D sewn up, and the window is looking a little shaky.

But like I said in my post, I'm not on the 'trade him' side.... yet. I've seen improvement since the first game, and now we're 10 games in and still looking for him to 'flip the switch'. If he gets his shit together soon and Demko comes back, then were back to the 1C, 1D, 1G you mention and the window stays open. It's been over 50 years of this shit for us, and I'm doing my best to stay positive, but they don't make it easy, do they?

If by taking calls you mean making calls, then yeah.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..
