Forbort has left the team for personal reasons.

On all the moves....

This up and down to Abby stuff seems like the kind of activity you might have figured out in the last couple preseason games.... I don't see how non-injury related cups of coffee really tell you much at all. I'd rather see Raty get 5 straight games of Baines get 5 straight games than for them to each get a couple. And I have to think this is one for the other, even though the moves weren't simultaneous.

I hope there is nothing seriously wrong in Forbert's life. Personal reasons can mean many things, and I won't speculate.

As a player, after a very shaky preseason, he's looked good enough for third pairing work and the Canucks have a bigger drop off from #3 to #4 left shot D in their system. In part because neither Desharnais or Juulsen have demonstrated "good enough for third pairing work," so of course the gap between them and whoever is next (presumably Friedman) is small. Maybe the throwaway in the Poolman dump will succeed on his 4th chance (or so). I doubt it, but it would be very good fortune for both the Canucks and Brannstrom is Brannstrom can separate himself from the pack of tweeners.

What's not been talked about much is the in-game moves. In the Calgary game, Tochett switched up the lines to protect the lead and it failed. Team played with collapsing mentality -- exactly what Tochett recognized became an issue towards the end of last season and into the playoffs. Canucks lose the period 3-1 and pose zero threat to the Flames offensively. In the second game, he does the same. He sits Sprong (I get it), but when he puts him back in, he puts him in not with his linemates, but a newly configured group. Sprong's there is textbook from the film "why is Sprong a defensive liability," and its 100% on him, but at the same time, I think if you aren't confident in a guy in a close game, when you do put him out there, put him out there with his linemates.

In both of these games, the Canucks were playing not-so-well but they were winning the games. Changing lines when leading introduces new points of failure and changing the lines to protect leads changes the players' mentality. It is over-coaching early in the season. I'm not saying it should never be done, but first let it fail if it is going to fail, then teach from those mistakes, then if that fails, change the approach to the game. Its a long season.

34 games without an even strength goal.

Change the scenery for this guy. His stock is only going to continue to drop.

Jaysus, didn't realize it was that long since he had an even strength goal.

Not 100% into the trade him camp yet, but if he has an injury that is bothering him that much, put him on IR or LTIR and let him heal up.

He scored an even strength goal the first game after he signed the contract and that has been it so far.

As I've said before, it feels to me like he stopped playing when he signed the contract but some people trace this back even farther.

Guess they decided to move Suter to back to center?
Looks that way, I wasn't overwhelmed with Raty's work in this recent stint personally.

Wasn't really smellin' what The Tock was cookin' this time.
don't disagree. hopefully he uses all of this as motivation to kill it in Abby and give them no choice but to bring him up again soon
Raty was noticeable in his games - both for good and bad reasons - but he flashed some competitive chops. He just isn't what Tocchet needs in a 3rd-line C right now. He just has to work on the defensive details a bit more and know where he has to be. The good thing is hopefully Abby is still largely implementing Tocchet's system down there.

I would say he's close. We may see more of him after the TDD.

I honestly think the problem is between his ears. Last game he was skating hard and working at getting pucks - he just wasn't coming out with them enough, nor with his trademark authoritativeness. Things he used to naturally do that worked for him don't seem to be working, and it seems he doesn't know what to do to get around that - or he lacks the confidence to do it when he has someone all over him.

He'll work through it. At least we can count out him checking out; I don't doubt his desire. He's not like Huberdeau.

Trademark authoritativeness?

He lacks the physique to do things with the puck with defenders all over him. After his one and only 100 point season defenders keyed on him, and they stepped that up last season when the team was taking the league by surprise. At the all-star break the surprise was over, and he was pushed around more and shouldered off the puck. He skates like a faster Sedin but lacks the strength that their frames permitted them to build. Hank and Dank were less effective as soon as Boston and LA showed the league how to shut down their cycle game, and they lacked the foot speed to create their own space. Petey also lacks that footspeed, higher top end than the Twins but he’s not explosive and possesses average lateral movement, therefore he can’t escape the physical defenders in tight.

Trademark authoritativeness……

Yeah I fucked up that quote. But the point stands. The man is acting like one. The diaper flinging is curious especially when one of the current chief diaper tossers licked Jim Benning's asscrack for seven years during what was likely the shittiest time to be a fan of this team. Rock Creek badly needs a tavern and some dance hall girls and maybe even a Swiss Chalet.

Dude...... get on it. Let's make Topper happy again.
