This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Price controls, my experience.

When I lived in Jamaica, the price of the National beer, Red Stripe was controlled at $5Ja a bottle except hotels (tourism). The movie Wall Street came out and one of the main characters drank Red Stripe. This product placement greatly increased the popularity of Red Stripe in the US where D&G, the makers of Red Stripe, could sell at much higher prices.

D&G increased their exports to the US market without increasing production leading to beer shortages in Jamaica.
