Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward
Good points all around. With Boeser becoming a UFA next summer the premium on the return for Boeser is decreasing, and will so as the season wears on. I highly doubt a playoff contender like the Canucks is going to trade Boeser for peanuts as they will see more value in keeping him around for another playoff run especially with what he brought in the playoffs this year.
In other words, I see a scenario of us walking him to UFA like a lot of playoff contenders in situations like this. There’s been no discussion of trading Boeser, I don’t expect that to change as he’s a “playoff asset” and that’s how this team is thinking now. Signing Guentzel makes a ton of sense when you think about it, he’s the back up plan for when Boeser walks next summer. That way we have two quality top 6 wingers (Boeser and Guentzel) for at least one playoff run. It seems how teams operate these days, long term planning doesn’t seem to be a thing.

I've been a bit proponent of keeping Boeser, not necessarily because I like him but because I hadn't seen another way of replacing him without paying some other non-core, good but not great winger to do the same, or trading big assets. We've just got to bring in skill to our top 6 if we want to be true contenders and I'm open to how that's done.
If we bring in Guentzel, that certainly opens up a lot of options.

I think that was the best short-term new about the play of Silovs this playoffs. He looked good enough to play 30 games without adversely affecting the Canucks' playoffs chances, and if that's the case, the extra rest could reasonably be expected to improve Demoko's chances of entering the playoffs healthy next post-season.rikster wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 2:26 pm
IF there is a player management is thinking of being pro active about, my guess is that it's Demko whose inability to stay healthy for me trumps the concern over Boeser's next contract....
This is an important year for Demko from a health point of view, what does the team do if there is a repeat of last season?
Re: 2024 Offseason - moving forward
He took a puck in the leg and ended up with a DVT. That alone does not diagnose a chronic blood disorder.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 4:00 pm The unfortunate unknown with Boeser right now is his blood disorder. Now it has been said that they expect he will make a full recovery but nothing has been said definitely. So we don't even know when he can begin his off season training or if he will be ready for camp. Rutherford has said they won't deal with a Boeser extension until the new year at the earliest because of this and because of the fact he has had one great season after a couple of very disappointing seasons. So for all the reasons outlined throughout the year, the book is still out on what Boeser we can expect moving forward.
This too will hamper any trade talk, unless there is already a medical around saying nothing to see here.
I love the Boeser we saw this past year and maybe he can duplicate that for another 1-2 years. Miller is killing it at his age so there is that. If we have positive medical prognosis I would be fine extending him 3-5 years but at no more than what he is making now. Five years would take him until the end of Miller's contract as well. And you play with the cap. Shorter term 7 M maximum. Longer term lower cap.
The truth is we don't have anyone other than Likemyasser who is projected as a top six and we don't know how he shows at camp to see if he even has a chance of breaking into the NHL yet. The Boeser situation is 100% better than last year. This year we have reasonable options. Fortunately we don't have to make any decision on him right now, we can get through FA and see what we land.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

If we’re going hard at Guenzel why aren’t we trying to draw Reinhart home?
Too expensive?
If Jake is at $9m per for 8, would Sam play at home for $10m per?
Can we at least attempt to get some local talent back on this team!

One word.
Florida.
Second words.
No State tax.
Interwebz rumorz have Florida and Sam close to on the same page for a deal already....
I agree on the local talent however.

Apparently Reinhart really wants to stay in Florida. I think he’ll give them the hometown discount.

Stupid taxes and all that gorgeous snatch in FLA.

It is super frustrating not seeing kids that grew up Canucks fans playing for the team.
At this point we’re now essentially 3rd gen Canucks fans. It’s engrained. Get these kids playing at home and for the team they loved growing up. Any extra motivation can pay dividends!

Fairly arbitrary comment imo.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 7:04 pm I was born and raised here and I wouldnt want to play here. Most of them don’t.
I'd bet both Bedard and Celebrini would have loved to play here.
