What are the Caps thinking on the PLD trade? With the number of remaining years isn't this an absolute monster of a gamble? Feels like some similarities to our own OEL trade..

You have to believe there are issues with PLD. LA gave up a lot to acquire him. This is Blake cutting his losses before the PLD no trade kicks in.

Looking back, wasn't PLD the player Vancouver most coveted in the draft and when he was taken, Vancouver settled upon the JuJu man.

Every trade of PLD involves a GM cutting his losses.

Gives a modicum of comfort on the failure of the JuJu man to develop a heart.

oh no HW, I get why LA is getting rid of him.. I just don't understand why the Caps are doing this deal. They aren't giving up a ton to get him, but they are taking on that cap hit for 8 or so years.. yikes! I assume they are gambling that after 4 teams or whatever he'll finally become the player he was drafted to be.. such a huge gamble

While I mostly agree that acquiring Dubois is like buying land near Chernobyl, hope springs eternal for a 25 year old (almost 26) with size and talent. And more than "not giving up a ton to get him," they arguably traded Loui Eriksson with 3 years left on his deal to get him. Kuemper didn't belong in the NHL last year, and the chances of repeating that performance (at $5.25 M) and having zero value at the NHL level is far more likely than returning to his Colorado form. If Markstrom is "fringe" on Topper's tiering, what is Kuemper? If the Kings are heading into this season thinking Kuemper is their #1, that's good news for the Pacific Division.

WOW, seems like a lot for Old Man Markstrom

... even if the Flames did retain.

Good though, likely drives up the price of Ullmark/Saros with the Leaves shopping for a goalie.

Thanks UW, I havn't paid much attention to Kuemper lately, was pegging him more as zero value. If he's as negative as you're saying that brings at least a little more insight to why they are doing it.

Your Loui example however is not making it any easier for me to try and ignore the OEL trade similarities!

Washington is an aging team and will be dropping mega salary sooner than later thus are in a position to make the reclamation effort.

Maybe it works a la LeClair or Bert.

Maybe not.

Bluger $1.5 mil

Jake Guentzel $9mil

= $18.5 mil with 21 players signed.

This fan base and media clickers needs to move on from the 9million albatross that is about to happen.

No way do we want this contract.

leaves nothing for anyone else and the Canucks going with a 21 man roster. It will be tight.

Didn't include a potential Silovs cap hit as it would be about the same as the current back up's on Capfriendly's website

Saw elsewhere on the interweb

Caps acquired CapFriendly so people will forget how bad the PLD contract is.
