CC Random thread

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

5thhorseman wrote: Sun Jun 09, 2024 6:07 am What's the problem? Aren't you already walking everywhere with your phone in your pocket and use credit cards for all your transactions. All the data to track you already exists.

I go to the comment section and it's page after page of religious nuts. No signs of intelligence.
What's the problem my bud 5th asks....

...for you, my friend, seemingly little...for me, something more than that.

..and I don't care about the comments, rarely do I read them tbh.

To your phone denotation, for sake of discussion, I operate 3 cell phones none of them in my name or readily trackable to my person.

To your credit card comment, yes but I also use cash as much as possible (50% plus or minus...WE ALL should be doing this) to mitigate that concern and I, as well, use Corporate cards in lieu of personal, perhaps 25% of the time. So "they", as a result can "see" me 1/4 of the time I spend money.

There are health as well as privacy concerns.

Will we still have control over our bodily privacy or are we on the clock, as it were 24/7/365? Not so with cellular and Visa...I still have a choice, put them down, put them away, escape.

Will we be able to remove the implants ourselves or does Doc Frankenstein need to be involved?

How will we know if our chips are being hacked by criminals or governmental bodies?

RFID chips may pose a threat to our health due to unwanted internal migration, tissue reactions, potential negative electrical response with, for example, defibrillators, infection, potential incompatibility with medical equipment a la MRI's.

Chips have been known to cause cancer in lab rats. My opinion is inadequate health studies have been completed to allow any microchip to be implanted into my body.

When they inevitably become mandatory and the Orwellian factor kicks in will folks continue be so laissez-faire?

I could wax poetic about global elitism and Governmental control of the peon populous but we (as well as several others here so not exclusive nor central to you) don't agree on that so I won't bother.

Even if they are not mandatory to exist in the day to day world the selective process may become so......want a credit card...need a chip...a mortgage...a chip...health care...a chip....enroll in University...a chip...insurance...hired for a job...go to a Canucks game....chip, chip, chip....if you don't see the removal of whatever remains of our personal freedom(s) in that then we are going to disagree on this subject as well.

Chips can be hacked....identity theft...erasure...alteration.

In summary and to your point (I think) RFID implants may make our lives more efficient, but, in the end, who really benefits from human microchipping?

Me?

Or someone else?

It is just another step towards Big Brother (Orwellian) tracking where we are, what we do, how we do it and with whom.

Human chipping would allow governments (or the police...the SS...ah just kidding bro) to electronically read citizens via data analyzers strategically located in public places (isn’t that a friendly neighbour to the Communism angle you were lol'ing @ the other day)?

RFIDs can basically be scanned from a few feet away, by anyone and everyone who has a reader which speaks to the criminal angle noted above and I would hope should be a real concern to all humans.

So yeah...no thanks.

The "positives" I was speaking of yesterday with respect to Mainland Chinese individuals in my life...this topic sits squarely in the con side of that equation.

I find it entertaining that there is the faint possiblity of a panel of geeks studying my snack and weed buying habits wondering where I'll buy shit next.

I welcome the scrutiny

But what if it's a CSIS-run AI who notifies the hit squad when you've become too much of a freethinker and have developed a 3rd eye?

Or what if an insanely jealous husband working for the NSA is tracking down the dirty rural Alberta electrician who boinked his fat wife?

The hit squads and jealous husbands have to get through my long range motion sensors, 4k camera network (closed system), dogs then my suppressing fire from 150 yards and closer.

I'm like a branch Davidian outpost...they'll need to burn me out

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.
