LoL like our defense currently is any better than that.

Tanev is likely to see only 60-65 games a season from here on out, he's obviously playing through pain in his contract year to cash in.

Barrie>>>Stecher.
& Barrie likely only will make $1M-$1.5M more per year over Tanev in AAV for these two UFA's. IF we get Barrie we ain't going after Risto.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Can't go with an all offense defense. I think Tanev will re-sign. If he doesn't, why give Barrie a long pricey contract at 30? He'll want a raise
to boot. Yikes.
No problem with having another offensive D-man who can also play the #2 PP. but not another 30 year old starting a new contract.
Lets not forget, we have to replace Edler very soon too.
Tanev and Edler block a ton of shots and passes particularly on the PK.

I don’t mind Barrie but he isn’t what this team needs. Why is he my favourite?

How about...

Tanev walks but we sign Barrie and the Napkin.

If Tanev wants around the same as Barrie, all thinga considered i might go with Barrie. He may not be as defensively sound but is good for 50pts+, can QB a powerplay, never gets hurt, local guy who WANTS to be a Canuck.

You might say he steals some thunder from Hughes or look how that went in san jose but remember....Hughes is just 20 and he isnt BB or EK.

Scoring is always at a premium and here comes a dman that will bring out the best of vancouvers strengths. They arent a defense first group...they outscore problems. Napkin in for Stetcher addresses one of my big weaknesses for the team and thats strength on that 3rd pairing

I find it hard to believe that Barrie will get 50 + points here unless he’s bumping Quinn Hughes off the #1 PP.

Its a little bit of a stretch to consider it i know but Vans d needs a makeover. I can see a Barrie and Hyghes pairing as having league leading potential if they click

Besides San Jose I haven’t seen any other teams use 2 D on the PP.

I agree it needs a makeover but they really need D who can actually play D. Myers is average at best in his own zone, Edler is prone to more mistakes these days. I’d rather they go with an Edmunson, Dillon, Gudas, Demelo type if they let Tanev go. Barrie is a skilled player but IMHO he and Hughes would get lit up as a pairing. This will be a process rebuilding a defence that has been in decline for 7 or 8 years.

Thats because no other teams have the same scoring calibre on d. Barrie and Hughes together...maintain control/keep away like Detroit used to do. Accentuating your teams strengths is ehat Van needs-speed/skill/scoring

Barrie coming home and playing his heart out is also a factor you cant discount.

Forfeiting a shot at rolling with the deadly double trouble d-pairing in favour of adding plumbing slugs doesnt sound nearly as appealing.

Sounds like more of how its gone for the past 50-cupless

For a supposed purely offensive dman Hughes was statistically the best of our group at moving it out of the D zone. Tanev was 2nd...go figure.

Barrie with Hughes will be back quicker than Tanev and I suspect will give the forecheckers more to worry about than CT. The problem will be down low and in front of the net.

Who would block shots and lay guys out with devastating but legal hits be able to grind out the puck possession battles, not to mention
be mean to forwards poking at the goalie? Even with all that offensive upside on one pairing there would be areas of vulnerability that could possibly be exploited by other teams that have done their homework scouting.
I thought for his size, Quinn did as well as could be expected on the board battles. Barrie is only marginally better due to his thickness which
he will have to watch as his career shifts from summer to fall.
