Where's Archie Bunker when u need him. Christ almighty this is ridiculous.

A successful career is over for a few misspoken words....words that sting but are hardly anything new or cutting edge.
Niggerly is the support for him.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

I'm with Blob on this one.

If Peters was some great coach and apologetic, that would probably go a long ways to building support around him.

But when he's doing a sub-par job after a fluke performance last (regular) season, and has been totally silent on what we can all agree is a pretty shitty thing to say (unlike Babcock, who to his credit immediately acknowledged what he did to Marner was stupid), its tough to build a case to save his job.

Peters isn't too different from Aliu - too much of a bubble player for anyone to go to battle for him to save his career.

At the end of the day, the Flames is a business, and if its not in their business interests to be associated to a racist, they will shit-can him. If nobody cares that Peters said something racist 10 years ago, its within their rights to keep him on and weather the storm. But I don't get the sense that Peters is a guy worth weathering the storm for.

Another situation that could have been handled quickly and professionally, but instead is given time to fester.

What is wrong with a quick, sincere apology and moving on? It was wrong, everyone knows it - so own up to it and make amends. Cherry could have, Peters could have done it - but instead, just let react and blow it up for ratings and clicks.

Many of you are acting like he's being accused of saying n****r back in the 30's.

I was a child of the 80's knowing this to be probably the only word I shouldn't say. This isn't a new thing.

If you are calling a black man a n****r in the year 2009 I have no sympathy for whatever is brought on you.

While I agree with this 100% - from the quotes I've read here (and yes, I don't care enough to search the internet for anything related to this) - it seems he was referring to the music, not the person - and while still wrong, should be dealt with as an apology - but it seems the player is looking to stir up shit after the fact.

Unless your anything but a white man.. then you cant use the N word. African Americans call each other that all the time.
If he actually used that word at a specific person, then yeah, he has whatever is coming to him.

But he didn't call anyone the N word.. or at least I have not yet seen where he did. I read the tweet.

He used it as an adjective to describe a type of music.. same slang as everyone else used back then. How many people stilled called the short black licorice by a certain word followed by 'toes' 10-15 years ago, or used the old phrase: " I Jewed him down" if you drove a hard bargain and got a good price?? 10-15 years ago, it was perhaps offside, but today its racist.
Same with the sexual orientation phraseology. 10 years ago, you could call a guy gay or a cocksucker. heck, you could even call certain actions gay. it was in movies, radio and considered mainstream. Now, it is used to describe a specific type of person, and now, that gets you in hot water if used any other way.

I would prefer if everyone just waited until all the facts come out instead of potentially ruining a guys career over a tweet.

Last I checked, people were innocent until proven guilty, but the social media would have people believe otherwise.

If the league proves he said it, then hang him high. But perhaps a breath or two before the mob ruins a life...

There was a very popular military mascot in WW2 with the same name that also made it into the movie Dam Busters. Shall we white wash history? Do we need to change the name of Black Labs? What to? Non-golden Labs? Should we flush the colour black from the english language?

You know that Peters shouldn’t have said that word in any context. He is to blame here.

Lol, same slang everyone used back then? We are talking about 2009. In case you've forgotten, we had iphones and facebook the year he said it.

I'm not hanging him yet at all. I'm commenting on the people who are already defending him.
