Yeah, you don't get the Ferkland as a rental. He gets extended to ride shotgun.
But him asking for "Tom Wilson" money is probably just a negotiating ploy from his agent. Nobody gets TW$ but Tom Wilson.
With Gaudette almost ready for primetime, I'd definitely look at shedding Sutter's salary and handing it over to Ferky.

Sutter ain't going nowhere, we don't have a cap issue and center depth is paramount for a team's success, Sutter/Beags patrol a solid bottom six group, move out wingers and depth dmen if you want to create cap.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Baertschi and one of Lind or Gadjovich enough to get a conversation started?

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Gudbranson for Ferland or
Hutton for Ferland or
Sutter (back to Carolina) for Ferland or
Beagle for Ferland
Extend Ferland
Canucks have to move out a substantial contract to extend Ferland
If Ferland doesn’t get traded (I think he will, a contender will pay dearly for him) the team that trades for him he will sign with them
Don’t compete for Ferland in the off season he will sign a stupid Martin Lapointe contract (Boston Bruins)

What do Carolina need in return? I doubt they would want a D back in a trade for Ferland, unless one is coming our way. Wouldn't want to trade Beagle for him, maybe Sutter. Definitely Goldobin but I know we would have to add to that.RoyalDude wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 6:51 am Gudbranson for Ferland or

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
We are already thin for top 6 wingers. I would rather keep him. Would love it if it was Goldobin plus 1 of those prospects and a mid round pick for Ferland, but yeah, that most likely wouldn't be enough.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 1:49 pm Baertschi and one of Lind or Gadjovich enough to get a conversation started?

I doubt Vancouver will pay what the Canes want. Other teams are in a better position to meet their wants and desires, which is no
doubt either something and their first round pick, (for teams likely to not make the playoffs;
OR; A young blossoming star in full bloom.

A better strategy is wait til july 1. Why bleed assets on rentals at this stage when we really wont have much of a chance come playoff time
If you need air...call it in

It is okay to do a deal now but only if it makes sense. No point overpaying for these guys when our positional depth, except at G, is not good.
Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Thing is it's best to deal with teams who are cash strapped and can't afford to payup for their good players who are not over the hill yet, this is what eventual Cup teams have done since the NHL started.micky107 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 10:01 am I doubt Vancouver will pay what the Canes want. Redwings dealt with Whalers for Shanahan. (for old Paul Coffey, Keith Primeau, and a first-round pick.)
Blackhawks dealt with Canes for Andrew Ladd. (for Tuomo Ruutu, as canes needed a flexible player who could play center)
LA Kings dealt with Canes for Jack Johnson (who didn't want sign there or something)/LA eventually dealt Johnson him for Jeff Carter.
Those teams all eventually won their Stanley Cups thanks to being aggressive at the right time and taking advantage of a team with a smaller budget.
Sometimes you gotta be go-getter, it's a chess game on when to go bold or remain patient but risk missing out on a key player who could be a difference maker on your team for the long haul.
For me Ferland would be superb to help protect the Canucks Franchise player Petey in his early rookie years mostly and be able to score 20 & he's great in the playoffs. I think we could reasonably re-sign Ferland 4 years around $3.75m-$4M per.
Canes also want to deal a dman, likely Faulk as they can't afford to re-sign him after next season, he strikes me as a type that can explode offensively with a much needed change of scenery.
If we can re-sign ferland (speaking to his agent prior) I'd offer up Jake Virtanen + Troy Stecher for Michael Ferland + Justin Faulk. Canes get a couple younger pieces cost controlled (JV is the type a lot of teams don't have or can't trade), while the Canucks get two pieces they need to progress their rebuild + can afford to re-sign.
However that takes the Canucks out of the Karlsson sweepstakes July 1st, it's a chess move forecasting maybe they can't get him. But Faulk would be much more affordable than EK, and recognizing we also have Hughes who we'll likely have to pay for in a couple years.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Jake is the guy who would benefit the most if Ferland became a Canuck.
