Well it's like Doc has been saying all season, leaves were going to have to treat his as an UFA. Cap hit is reasonable 2-3 years from now. It's high considering a bridge deal would be far less. So high for the first couple of years, reasonable for years 3-5, then unknown after that. It could be a steal in years 6-7 or high depending upon how he plays.Zedlee wrote:http://www.tsn.ca/leaves-ink-zaitsev-to- ... n-1.740623
$4.5 per year for 7 years for Zaitsev.
Reasonable annual salary, but the term! Did they have to go 7 years? 5 years would not get it done?
Yikes, that's a tough call, but that's probably the kind of financial and term commitment it would have taken.Hockey Widow wrote: My take, a good contract cap and term. It will balance out over the seven years. Give this one to the fish. Would anyone here be upset if we offered that to Trymankin to get him to stay? Zaitsev is more proven and wants to be in the NHL.

And Jake Gardiner is +25. Would you comment on that if you value +/- so much?Strangelove wrote:I think that term is extremely risky!
As you say ESQ they only have one year in the NHL to go by
... and Zaitsev absolutely died down the stretch (long before his concussion).
And like Don Cherry keeps pointing out: minus 22!![]()
But the Leaves were beyond desperate for a top-4 RHD.
They still desperately need another one.
Also need a lot of depth in the defense department...
Desperate times call for desperate measures.

UMMM... we're talking about minus 22 Nikita Zaitsev right now.BigTuna wrote: And Jake Gardiner is +25.

No I don't think he is tough, just tougher than Sutter. For the record I can't stand Kadri but he's a pretty good hockey player.Strangelove wrote:Well I know which one I'd rather have on my team and it's definitely not Kadri...Blob Mckenzie wrote:Doc probably thinks Sutter is better than Kadri.
Probably thinks he's tougher too.![]()

And that's just lately.
You don't actually consider Kadri to be "tough" do you Blob??

Zaitsev-The best UFA signing of any team last season. But you guys got Loui Erikkson.Strangelove wrote:UMMM... we're talking about minus 22 Nikita Zaitsev right now.BigTuna wrote: And Jake Gardiner is +25.

Probably but Kadri and Bonino are both better than Sutter. Kadri bullied the Canucks in two games this year. It was embarrassing for all us non spandex wearing fans.RoyalDude wrote:Is Kadri tougher than Bonino?

In a time where we hear non-stop about the high price of acquiring a top 4 D-Man, the leaves got a young top 4 RH Shot D-Man as a UFA with no assets spent to acquire him.Blob Mckenzie wrote:MBigTuna wrote:Zaitsev-The best UFA signing of any team last season. Not sure about Zaitsev being the best UFA signing but Eriksson was among the worst and made zero sense for this team. These guys have so much sperm in their eyes and lodged in their throats they can't see straight. Pretty sad two of the best long time posters have become trolls

Yep first team in NHL history to get "a UFA with no assets spent to acquire him".BigTuna wrote:the leaves got a Zaitsev as a UFA with no assets spent to acquire him.

Agreed, I liked Blob and Nucklehead in their earlier incarnations...Pretty sad two of the best long time posters have become trolls.
