IT does seem much better to "Blow-it-up" and tank. That's what the leaves have done. No other franchise other than Edmonton and maybe Arizona due to finances has done it to that degree in recent years. That makes it much easier to believe in the team than trying to rebuild while also make the playoffs, which virtually never works.
If my team was trying that and giving out horrendous contracts to aging players, I would not be nearly as positive.

Vancouver gives Erikkson, what 6 years 6 million per. He's over 30, regressing and 1 concussion away from being done. Toronto gives 9 million COMBINED to Kadri=26 years-old and Rielly 22 years old through their prime years. And both are completely healthy.

I'll take the leaves approach.

"Ignore"? Yeah no. You're the one who keeps ignoring the fact that the leaves D situation current and in the future is in shambles and years, YEARS behind in development compared to the Canucks, the toughest position to build, not to mention that we have one of the best if not the best goalie prospects in the NHL - Demko

Stop it Tuna, you're embarrassing yourself. You do realize that you can't be a powerhouse in this league with just a few dipsey doodling forwards and no D and shite goaltending? It's called balance thought the lineup.

The Canucks D future and goaltending future is centuries ahead of the leaves and I will offer up that Horvat, Boeser and Virtanen will prove to be on par in value compared to Zorro, Rabbit teeth/puny person and girl face concussion issues

You have no #1 centre. That is as important as defence.
And goalie prospects are so hard to judge. Andersen is a #1 who is here for 5 years. And Joseph Woll has nice upside when his contract is over.
Morgan Rielly is better than any of your defensive prospects.

And it took you what? 48 years to figure out this approach? Even have to reserve that because it hasn't technically worked yet. We will see. Can't pass judgement too soon.
Gees! The more and more this goes on, the more I realize I might have to go down to the bar soon.
They're doing a survey and I haven't got to it yet.

Reilly whom Babcock is not a big fan is such an airhead there is no conversation that suggests him being an elite top pairing D man, he lacks the intelligence. Tanev, Hutton, Stecher, Juolevi, Tryamkin, Gudbranson (all young btw) are better than anything the leaves have on D, I would even put Brisebios as having greater potential to being better than that dumbass Reilly

Boeser Horvat Virtanen vs Nylander Matthews Marner?

Is there much of a difference their when these 6 players have developed?

We are better positioned for the future cause we have already built up the two toughest positions to acquire quality in - Defence and Goaltending

My point was that you said the Leaves picked up a "good backup or 1B goalie"

and immediately gave him 5 X $5M.

My other point was that you said a 1st + 2nd is a "low price" for a "good backup or 1B goalie".

Like I say, Leaves are still in need of a 'goaltender for the future'...
Since November 1st Andersen has easily been a top 10 goalie. But he's no good, right? 5 million places him 18th in goalie salaries. He had better numbers than that last season.
We weren't talking about hot streaks in November.

YOU said Andersen is a "solid #1 goalie".

Well he's not a "solid #1 goalie" until he performs well over the course of a full 60+ game season.

YOU said Mr Andersen was "a good backup or 1B goalie" as of this past off-season

... and then YOU said Mr Andersen "a solid #1 goalie" based upon his work in November.

Jumping the gun has always been your downfall.

YOU didn't learn from all the times in recent years you "guaranteed" Leaves would make the playoffs? 8-)
BigTuna wrote: You do not need to spend 8-10 million on a goalie in today's NHL. Carey Price is by far the best, and he's never been to a finals.
Not sure what you're trying to say.

There is only one goaltender whose cap-hit is in that range (Lundqvist: $8.5M).

Carey Price has a $6.5M cap-hit.

Andersen was a severe gamble @ $5M X 5... and so far his sv% is 36th in the NHL. :D

What were the Canucks thinking? No one is going to ever take that contract.

And BTW, those comments yesterday during the Q&A session with Linden was TERRIFYING. He can't rebuild because he can't hurt the feeling of the twins. Oye! I see more Eriksson contracts coming! You can't rebuild and try to win by signing horrible contracts at the same time. It NEVER works.

The leaves approach is the same approach Buffalo used, which is the same approach the Oilers have used for a decade. In what fucking world should we follow the lead of a team that is about to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their last Stanley Cup (and Cup final appearance)? Sorry, the idea that the leaves are some kind of trailblazers or a team to emulate is a laugh. They are easily one of the worst-run franchises in the NHL. Thankfully for them, they have a massive population of fuckwits that will continue to pay for the luxury of getting kicked in the dink.

As far as contracts, that's another classic, coming from a fan of the franchise that signed Tim Connolly, Mike Komisarek, Jeff Finger, Dion Phaneuf and David Clarkson to ridiculous deals. They're also still paying Tim Gleason.

Yeah, it's gonna be fun to see what they do with all that cap-space opening up next summer.

I think Horvat will be a top 15 NHL center. I would be fine moving forward with him and another guy as good or just about as good as him for a 1-2 punch up the middle.

Who knows if Reilly is better than any of Vancouvers propspects on the back end. For all any of us know Juolevi may end up being another OEL.

Good post. I like what Reilly has shown alot but after him the defense is populated by projects and wishes. Its the main reason youre sitting at 22nd with another lottery ticket come June. The dude is right that the defense is where you build from...and why your eyes are watering nervously right now

I don’t know how I walk into the room and tell these guys, “Strip it down.” I’m not sure it’s fair to these guys. There’s different circumstances, be it in Toronto or Carolina or Vancouver, that require different routes"

I'd be so terrified if I had Brendan Shanahan making crazy comments like that. Oh don't rebuild because we may hurt the Sedins feelings. Jesus...

And you guys feel you have some great future? The Eriksson's signings will continue!
Unlike many of the posters I believe the leaves are under good management and coaching and will make the playoffs this year or next. They do need D and goal is still a ? but they have the pieces to get both. Time will tell. Johnny Bower was my favourite goalie and Frank Mahovalich (sp) my best player way back. I loved going to games in the old Garden. Saw Vancouver play them when Snepts was a rookie.

As for the Sedins. You do not trade the twins at this point. They have given everything to Van and I like loyalty. Maybe Trevor remembers what it felt like when Messier and Kennan fucked him. Anyway, that is the type of gesture by Trev that builds a team and a winning team needs spirit. This is one of the ways of getting it. I know many will disagree but I truly believe we stay loyal to Danny and Hank. If the finals were called in a fair way we would have a Cup. I believe that too. They play hockey with skill and live with dignity. They are generous to Van and loyal. Sure it is a business but it about people too.

On another note I am not sure where your appetite for abuse comes from. You are the sites scapegoat and I wonder if you are a regular posting under another handle? Whatever....you sure must like getting kicked around.

That's not what Trev said.

He said Sedins have earned respect.

Twas just the opposite with Kessel (your namesake) and Phaneuf

... due to things like Salute-gate and their coach-killing ways and whatnot.

(notice there are still some of those guys around, how long until Kadri returns to the party scene for eg.)

The rebuild won't work and the only reason you think it will... is because of a fluke.

Yup, if the Leaves hadn't have lucked-out and won the draft lottery

... you Moronto Creeple would likely already be turning on Shanny and his "Shanaplan".
