Something like:

Boeser + Soucey to cup contender team.

Blue chip winger prospect, 1st, cap dump to Canucks.
I would be trying to unload Pettersson and package Soucy into that.

When I looked at Boeser and Pettersson I am convinced that neither of them are ever going to be THE MAN, but both can very well be THE MAN’s wingman. Brock will be much cheaper than $11.6M, and frankly their skating is a wash…..BB has better first step and lateral movement, Pettersson more top end through open ice, but BB doesn’t get knocked over when a defender breathes on him.
I would be up for something like that but I would want a top C prospect coming back in any trade involving Pettersson. Depending on return, I can be fine with trading anyone except Hughes. He is the only untouchable on my team, if I owned the Canucks.
Same here.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

One thing going in Canucks favour this TDL and Draft is that they have a shit load of cap space available, they should be able to take on 1 or 2 cap dumps to secure a top prospect(s) coming back in any trade.

I think they optimistically think they can lock down LA's spot or a WC. According to Puckpedia, they have 12.5 in deadline space but other teams have way way more. Reinforces my jihad hat cap space always matters.

Id like to see some more pieces brought in post break.

Management trades Pettersson for anything other than a 1C in - or close to - his mid-20s, good luck keeping Hughes. A top prospect centre is still just a prospect, and they may not make an impact for three years after acquisition - let alone replicating prime Petey's 100-point production - if ever. Is Hughes going to be keen to waste the next couple years waiting for the fruits of a Pettersson trade - if they ever do? That may just walk him to UFA and joining his brothers in NJ.

If Pettersson goes, it will be to another team who is willing to bet on him as the face of the franchise over whatever face of the franchise they had previously, or think Pettersson can accelerate their route to contention faster than their young star forward. Does a team like Columbus, Buffalo, Ottawa, Utah or Anaheim think a Pettersson in a new environment could move up their timetable at the cost of some on-the-cusp young talents?

A Pettersson trade will be a hockey trade vice a star-for-prospects-picks-and-cap-space trade like we're used to seeing. At that point you may as well go for broke and do an utter remake of the core and supporting cast. I would be in favour of management going that way. This will be their third year in office, and they've seen this season who can handle adversity and who doesn't, so they should have as reasoned an appreciation for this roster and who to keep and who to move.

Even if they make the playoffs, I'm looking forward to significant roster change between now and the start of next season and I wouldn't be surprised if they move on Petey.

I think the Canucks brass have to be getting real concerned with this closing window of until Petey’s full no movement clause kicks in. They must be sweating bullets in the halls of Orca Bay with nervous whispers at the water cooler of the lunchroom. The Aqua ain’t so cool anymore. Not with the heat coming off the Petey situation. Must be hotter than a Pacific Pallisades wildfire.

If that cap dump comes back this way, I hope it’s a nuckle chucker. This team needs someone who can tilt for the 4th line.

Defence looks good. They shouldn’t do anything until the summer with Soucy even if they plan to move on from him once Willander signs.
Defensive depth will be needed for the playoffs. If everyone is healthy and Willander and DPetey are playing next season on the Canucks, Soucy is the seventh Dman. He is too good to not be an everyday Dman on some team next season.

I expect Mancini and Aman will be moved to Abbotsford before the trade deadline and management will look to supplement the forwards a bit with those two roster spots, but I’m not expecting big moves or subtractions. They’ll go into the playoffs with this current roster, plus a couple additions. Supporting players like UFAs Jake Evan’s or Brandon Tanev might be had for non-first round draft picks in the last minutes of the trade deadline. Or more likely, management will pick up someone no one expected - like O’Connor - for cheap for the playoffs run.

I’ll be surprised if they sell EP40 at near his lowest value before his MNC kicks in. They’ll take the gamble that he will return to form in future seasons if he doesn’t in this current one. It’s the same gamble any team trading anything significant for EP40 would be making.

Likely they keep Boeser as their own rental and walk him to free agency, maybe they take a final crack at signing him for less money and term than he was expecting, but he is most probably gone in July.

Management was recently reminded about just how good Demko can be, and will stick with him hoping he is overcoming his health issues. He is more likely to retire because of health issues than be traded away.

The only way you can trade Petey, is garbage for garbage. Dylan Cozens is garbage, but making a whole lot less, you could start there. Need to make decision, soon. Before July 1st.

Pettersson ($11.6 million) the 2025 1st pick

For

Cozens ($7.1 million per) and
Bowen Byram (RFA) at seasons end.

Flip Byram to another team for future considerations

The 2025 1st is the sweetener in making up for Buffalo taking $4.5 million more in salary
