The Canucks should draft a forward with the 2019 1st. Our D is in a better state than our top 6 forward group. We only have 3 legit top 6 forwards, and nothing in the pipeline would suggest we have a top 6 in the making

With the emergence of Hutton and Stecher, arrival of Hughes. Edler and Tanev have lots of life left in them, I believe Edler will be back. With Juolevi being very close to graduating, let’s not forget that Olli is still a solid prospect, the D is actually in not that bad of a state compared to the top 2 lines. Bo needs help, Sven can’t be relied upon. We have Woo, Teves, Rathbone, Brisebois and hopefully Tryamkin in the wings and Schenn has been a pleasant surprise.

We will be picking around 8th to 10th. Hughes, Kakko, Podkozlin, Byram and Cozens will be gone so any of Turcotte, Krebs, Zegras, Boldy, Dach, Caulfield, Newhook would be a haul although most of them are centres but still we need top shelf forwards than we do Defence IMO

If Benning can trade back a couple spots, not a lot, picking up another pick like a 2nd that would ok if our pick is around 10th. I really don’t see a lot of difference between the prospects who should be available between 10 and 20. Take a chance on Caulfield, or one of Broberg or Soderstrom. Would love right shot D man Kaeden Korczak with the 2nd pick, a big physical d-man, good IQ and mobility. Him and Woo manning the right side opposite Hughes and Juolevi??

I can’t keep up with much of this thread, this is still about the draft right?

I’m fine as long as we get a top 11 pick. My preference in order is:

1 - Hughes (duh)
2 - Kakko (NHL ready top 6 winger, ideally needs to improve speed)
3 - Byram (BC boy, plays a position of need, very good scorer, can play a bit out of control)
4 - Cozens (big, fast, right shot C/W, almost top 6 ready, hockey sense only question)
5 - Podkolzin (plays like a Tasmanian devil, lots of skill, only issue is Russian factor)
6 - Krebs (little buzzsaw, plays has heart out, good skill, can play C or W, plays on a terrible team so hard to tell how good he actually is)
7 - Turcotte (complete C, very good scorer, very good all around player, somewhat injury prone)
8 - Dach (big, playmaking C/W, right shot, definitely something needed, needs to improve leg strength and speed)
9 - Zegras (slick, good skating C/W, tons of skill, a lower end Hughes, needs strength)
10 - Boldy (very skilled LW, big body, needs to improve skating stride)
11 - Soderstrom (RHD which is badly needed, very skilled, played in men’s league all year, a bit undersized)

Numbers 3-11 I’m almost indifferent about the order, I can’t remember a draft where that was the case but I honestly don’t care which guy we get. In order of need, I’d say RHD is first, then wing (both sides, but LW a bit more), while C and LHD are a bit more of a luxury, assuming Juolevi comes back strong next year.

We will get a good player to add to the prospect pool regardless of how these last 3 games go. Such is life when you continuously pick top 10.

Canucks keep winning man, falling back into the 9-12 area.

They probably leave happy selecting one of Zegras, Boldy, Krebs, Newhook, Kaliyev, maybe even swing for the fences on Caufield.

6'3-200lbs Broberg is really underrated around here imo, I think he'll be a solid top 4 dman, even for his size his most noteworthy ability is his skating.

I'd be down with tradin' down, BUT there is bound to be one or two off-board picks before the Canucks get to pick, meaning Birddog Benning might snag a top player with his later pick - as we've seen the past 2 drafts.

Buffalo, NYR, LA, Anaheim and Colorado all have two first round picks in the upcoming draft. Who of those is willing to let the later one go? It’s Buffalo and Colorado IMO they are done with the rebuild, to much pressure to make post-season, the other 3 teams are starting their rebuilds. What do Colorado and Buffalo need and do they need goaltending? Both those teams are stacked at the forward position

Do we actually think Jimbo will trade for another 1st? This is a guy who has actually made 1 less pick than he was supposed to over the last 5 seasons, while supposedly rebuilding, even while being handed an extra pick by Gillis and one more for Torts. He doesn’t like extra picksespite what he says - actions speak much louder than words. Why would he change his tune now?

My guess is he will make another ‘hockey trade’ or two, probably for another Goldy type and hope to catch lightning in a bottle, and then try to sign some FAs. I’ve seen nothing in the last 3 seasons to make me think he’s going to go out and try to secure more picks, though I sure would welcome it if he does.
