At least Rossi scored - with four fewer minutes than Pettersson. Then again, that was Rossi’s 5th goal of the season - on pace for a whopping 11 goals this year. On the one hand, hardly stellar production from the reputed 2nd-line centre and not-insignificant piece in the Hughes deal; it’s starting to look like Rossi was indeed the passenger/beneficiary of playing with Kaprizov and Boldy. On the other, that kind of production from him gives better odds at a top-3 pick.

We’ll see how Rossi fares next year. In the meantime, would like would like to see the play Petey to the point of exhaustion on a nightly basis so he can provide his best value to the organization: LTIR cap relief. Get him good and hurt long-term, take away his building pass and take him off the team chats and email dist lists. We’ll see how long it takes to either get him to void his NMC when it becomes clear he’s persona non grata in Vancouver.

Did Jersey, as the rumours suggest, really table an offer of Mercer, Nemec, Silayev and a 2026 1st for Quinn Hughes?

I don’t know, I kind of like the Jersey offer better. Silayev’s KHL contract ends this year and is expected to arrive next season. He’s pretty high up on a lot of nhl team affiliated prospect lists.

Mercer is having a good season - 10 goals 14 assists. Plus he’s Canadian. I wonder if because Mercer being Canadian was why Allvin went with the Minny deal? Allvin doesn’t seem to target Canadians when it comes to trades? Am I over thinking this?

Mercer - 10 goals 14 assists.
Pettersson - 8 goals 14 assists
Rossi - 5 goals 10 assists
Ohgren - 2 goals 1 assist

Nemec - 7 goals 11 assists
Buium - 4 goals 13 assists

New Jerseys 2026 1st round pick is currently sitting at 16th overall. Minnesota’s is sitting at 30th overall.

I definitely like this offer better. I don't think I buy it though. Nemec or Silayev, not Nemec and Silayev seems more plausible to me.

But who knows?

I do to. That was the package rumoured to be floated out there by Jersey. But you’re right, how the fuck do you turn down both Nemec and Silayev? Doesn’t add up. Silayev is getting high praise by the scouts out there.

You know what I suspect might be happening here; this is other organizations like New Jersey trying to look like they were serious when Bill Guerin had the only serious offer on the table and everyone else was dicking around. It's a face-saving measure.

It could be.

How do you think this trade will pan out for us over time? The Minny pick is aiming to be around 30th overall. I’m not sure on what to make of Rossi now that we’ve seen him for a number of games. Hoping he has more to offer than what we’ve seen so far.

Is Buium the next Brett Hedican? Time will tell. Fingers crossed

I think Buium will be a lot more than Hedican, though what his ceiling really is, it's hard to say. Ohgren has surprised me; he looks like a solid grinding winger in the making. Rossi, we can hopefully flip; he seems like a stopgap measure to me.

If they really turned that Jersey offer down, it was probably because they couldn't plug Silayev into the lineup right away, and it didn't fit the hybrid retool on the fly plan.

Not sure why the Hughes Trade is in the EP thread but the same people who laid out the player rumours being discussed also stated Jersey couldn't work out how to clear cap.

Nice of everyone to give Rossi a good solid kick at the can before buryng him.

And Buium is Bret Hedican now.

My turn for a break...

Hedican was a solid player for us. But Donny is right, wrong thread, I was more a less responding to Lancer’s talk of Rossi in his previous post to mine. Seems to be a lot of concerns over Rossi right now (not just me inventing this), which brought me to the so-called rumoured assets tabled by Jersey with the focus on centre - Mercer … vs Rossi, so to speak. But end of the day, Donny is right, wrong thread.
