Given how horrible we have been at developing talent look at the D talent we are accumulating. We have a pretty good groups of kids coming up on D. And another Woo is available this draft!!!
The only HW the Canucks need

1 less distraction.

D core looks pretty good TBH. I would be happy with the group they come back with no more changes.
Hughes - Hronek
M.Petey - Myers
(Forbort) - E.Petey
Willander - Mancini

Looks like good depth to me as well (glad to have Forbort back, if they can sign him).
Should allow D Petey to play on the Left now

Most importantly, the Canucks didn't have to burn a year of his ELC either.

The ticking clock on trading one or two of those names starts now. Really hope it's not D.Petey. I'd hate to let any promising player go before seeing them play for us (hello Forsling) but can totally see Willander as part of a package in a big blockbuster.

Don’t think Forbort will be back with DPetey fighting for the same LHD spot.
By Christmas, pending good health, the depth chart should be:

Hughes Hronek
MPetey Willander
DPetey Myers

KK Mancini

And yes, keep ‘em all, at least until Hughes re-signs next July.

Guaranteed they'll prefer an experienced depth D over the youth. So if not Forbort, they'll go small game hunting.

Keeping Willander, and if he hits his potential, he might be the best option for Hughes' partner in a year or so.

Allowing Hronek to run his own pairing.

Defense sorted.

Goaltending sorted.

Let's see what they can do with the top 6 now.

I agree.
Until they get the top 6 sorted out the existing D-core is more than adequate.

Lots of time here, no doubt a tough fix - but doable. Lets wait until Oct., before judging here.
It’s a tough fix no matter how you slice it. Doable in the long run, yes, but not doable in the short term but know they are going to try, shoot themselves in the foot trying to turn it around quickly. It’s what we do here.

I keep getting this feeling they're gonna go hard after Ehlers.

Is Willander signing today right after Foote announced as coach a coincidence? It's been well discussed that he's excellent at getting defenders up to NHL speed.

I know MM would've likely been a good choice as well but this defense is our bread and butter. We go as far as they take us until we start seeing something from that forward crew or Old Man and Smithers pull a few rabbits out of Blobs lawn couch cushions

Options though.

2025:
Re-sign Boeser, keep the NMC to a minimum, promote Lekkerimaki to a top 6 this year and re-sign Suter.

DeBrusk - Petey - Boeser
Hoglander - Chytil - Lekkerimaki
Joshua - Suter - Garland

Get lucky with health. Sneak into 2nd WC.

2026:
Sign McDavid and Eichel as UFAs at a discount, by promising them Paolo's portion of ownership when they retire.

Trade Petey (Buchnevich), Boeser (Guentzel) for scoring wingers with pedigree/toughness.

DeBrusk - McDavid - Guentzel
Buchnevich - Eichel - Lekkerimaki
Joshua - Chytil - Garland

Win the cup.

Things can change in a hurry Chef.
