The Aqualini’s are the problem, the shit show is just way too consistent over four management regimes under their watch. The song remains the same.

I remember Linden was asked in an interview when working for the Aqualini’s “why not just do a rebuild” and Linden repeats - “we can’t. We just can’t” shutting down the question. Nonis said in an interview that the owners have to approve or disapprove a rebuild, it’s not a management decision. He then told the story of a meeting, proposing a rebuild with the Maple Leaf ownership, that they approved when he was there.

The thing is at this point it doesn’t even need to be a rebuild, as in a full strip-down version. Because the D looks way too good for that right now once everyone's healthy and the kids get their feet wet, and in goal if Demmer can get over his injury woes and Lank is legit next year.

What they do need to do is overhaul the forward group, and the frustration lies with the Aquilinis’ insistence in prioritizing playoffs massively limits the ability to do it properly. The idiots just cannot get out of the way of their own potential success. It’s a pretty simple concept really: a properly built team gives you more success. If money is all that matters, they’ll make a crapload of it with a perennial contender and/or a Cup winner. How do they not get that? I seriously cannot get over these dumbfucks. Pisses me off us fans are held hostage by their greed and stupidity.

There are a LOT of big IF's in that. The blueline is very good, you are right. The rest is not reliable.

This is the confusing part. Guys like that have to be financial planners. They have to be able to forecast and build for ever increasing returns. It doesn't make sense that they would not do this. That being said, when you have a 2022-23 roster with Miller, Pettersson, and Hughes, and then see Kuzmenko, Garland, Joshua, Boeser, Demko (recovering), with youngsters like Hoglander and Pod, and the addition of Hronek (albeit on IR).....you want to build and go. Then 2023-24 rolls in and the Canucks steamroll out of the game into Christmas. Whodafuk is rebuilding that?

This year is a combination of average goaltending and some totally unforeseen drama. Fix Petey, either turn him around or replace him with something else and this team is better right now.....though not yet a contender.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Can't argue. I'm basing the goaltending outlook on the ceiling, which is definitely a big IF. But the ceiling is excellent.

Yup, I know what you're say but I'm not calling for a full rebuild. That ship has sailed years ago when they should've done it then. I'm just asking for the owners to have the ability to understand and adapt to evolving situations. Nobody planned for the drop off this year, but here we are. We have a team now that's not ready to contend for anything. Recognize that and adapt to the changes you have to make to get this team back into contention. This means abandoning the insistence of just getting into the playoffs, because that sets you back further in the grand scheme of things. Holding on to Brock/Pius and losing out on their returns, spending a 1st rounder for immediate help that you possibly could have gotten for nothing in the summer,...these moves set you back. It's not just these examples. There are so many more ever since these clowns bought the team. A death by a thousand cuts spin cycle of mediocrity.

I do find it interesting how when we had great depths at forward when Horvat was here how rabid fans and media were then, and very very recently, over the need to fix our defence. Now that we have “apparently” fixed our defence these same rabid folk are clamouring in desperation to see our rather lame forward group being corrected. We sacrificed one to fix another and now we need to fix what was sacrificed to fix the other. And the see saw continues in a dizzying fashion as always here in Canuckland.

Fixing the forward group is not an overnight fix. You can’t trade your way back to respectability in this department, but you know they will try. Oh they will try.

They should try to resign Forbort for a slight raise on his 1.5m. If he is their 6th and the three young defensemen - Mancini, D’Petey and Willander are 5th, 7th and 8th, and are fighting for ice time the Canucks have an excellent defensive group. Not sure about Mancini, but the other two young defencemen don’t have to clear waivers and can develop in the AHL if they need it. If the Goalies are healthy they are excellent, too.

It’s all about the forwards. They only have two well rounder forwards that can: 1. Pass and receive the puck 2. Drive play with above average NHL level skating. and 3. Score at a twenty goal pace in a full good season. They are Garland and Pettersson (when he is himself). Perhaps Lekkerimaki has the potential to join Garland and Pettersson as legitimate well-rounder top six forwards, but he needs some time to develop and get stronger.

Boeser can do #1 and #3, but can’t drive play.
Chytil can do #2 and maybe #3 in his best season, but not #1 (hope it improves)
DeBrusk can do #3, and sometimes #2 when he is at his best, but not #1 at all. He doesn’t need to be in the top six to score goals as he doesn’t play well passing with others and is mostly a net crasher and tipper.

The Canucks goaltending and defence seems sufficient to win a Stanley Cup, but they really need some grit up front and at least a couple more well-rounded forwards, particularly ones that play a heavy game in order to become top contenders. They don’t need a rebuild, but they do need to find some legitimate forward help without reducing their defensive and goaltending strengths. Right now there are too many bottom six forwards getting top six roles at different times, including DeBrusk, Chytil, Boeser, O’Connor, Suter, Blueger, Joshua, and Hoglander.

So, Cherry. How do you suggest we get legitimate top 6 forwards here? It’s no easy task. The only way I see how is to overpay a UFA like Marner this off season. I’m talking top 6 legitimate talent which is what we need, desperately need. Enough of the middle six forwards, Allvin seems to love those, we have an abundance of those, please stop, no more thank you. We need first line players. How do we get them? We’ve pilfered our asset pool to make such moves. The only way I see us being legitimate players in the trade market is putting Willander or Lekkerimaki and the 2025 1st on the table.

I’m just identifying the problem, but I wouldn’t trade those assets to solve it.
The problem probably won’t be solved in one summer.
The team can still be a playoff team without fixing all their problems, so if the goal is to be a Stanley cup contender next season, Trader Jim has time. Maybe he gets a legit top six player as a UFA? Maybe he trades for another next trade deadline? Maybe a prospect develops, or maybe he trades a defensive prospect like Mynio or KK for a similar level forward prospect and watches him develop? Maybe another GM makes a misjudgement and trades an undervalued asset? Maybe JT Miller blows up in New York and forces a trade back to Vancouver? There is time and there are ways.

Marner would be a hell of an addition Chef. Clearly the best player available and probably would be worthy of an 11-12 per price tag

I agree. It would be a fast track back to respectability. Stop fucking around and throw the big bucks at Marner and Bennett. Say goodbye to Boeser and Suter and trade Demko.

You hated Horvat. You bitched daily about the guy.
