Brutal stretch
Jan 28 home
Jan 30 in Winnipeg
Feb 1 in Montreal
Feb 2 Montreal
Nhl.com has that Winnipeg game on the 29th, so I believe that is the only back-to back involving travel. I think in a normal year there are 8 or so B2Bs with travel in the middle.
Correct, I pulled the sched from espn, they still have the it as the 30th.

Probably a bit more brutal of a run and makes for 6 back to backs in the 56 games sched.

Loui was signed in an off season where multiple UFAs were signed to bad contracts. In my mind that off season changed how GMs approach to off season now. The Sedin factor also made the Eriksson contract happen. Benning was under pressure to try to win as long as the Twins were here

Sutter trade and his contract was understandable, he was a decent player at the time, prime of his career, just paid $1 million too much, the sooner we get rid of him the better, he’s just too soft
The beagle, roussel, and schaller signings were Travis driven (similar to linden vey and bonino being Willy guys), that’s one thing I hope jim tones down is his willingness to get the coaches guys. I remember that free agency and it sounded like Canucks were out of the running for beagle because of his want for an extra year to play in Vancouver, then all of a sudden he was signed. I agree though beagle was a poor target all things considered. Roussel, and schaller would have been enough that offseason.

Put Beags and Sutter together and you got a boatload of culture.

Ole Chef has been into the sauce. Start the day with a drop of Bailey’s in the coffee. Back on the weed to. Will be shutting’er down soon. When ole Chef combines the weed and the booze he turns into a hopeless case, but good times

The thing is, Beagle earned a sweet retirement contract for all his years of loyal service to the Caps culminating in a Stanley Cup. When Washington didn't have the room to make that happen it was awful thoughtful of Jim and Mr Aquilini to step up with that offer. Players notice that sort of thing.

The subtleties of the signing are beneficial for sure, he’s good room guy and team mate, leader, hard worker, tone setter, mentor etc., it’s a digestible contract in a not so cap crunch era of hockey but unfortunately we are in a cap crunch era and I’d rather be losing him if he’s the difference in us not being able to sign Tanev or Toffoli for that matter

Guess we’ll get the bad news about Hughes and Horvat today.
Waivers begin tomorrow for new season.
Tomorrow, the Canucks should waive all their overpaid players and prospects who aren’t expected to, but might accidentally, make the roster so they are all available to go up and down to the taxi squad or Utica all season. They should waive and then recall Bailey, Graovac, Sautner, Brisebois, Chatfield, Teves, Loui, Roussel, Sutter, Baertschi, and Beagle before camp even begins. If one of them is lost now, it is not a big deal. Benning needs to keep his eyes on the waiver wire as there may be GMs trying to waive goalies right away. He might be able to grab a decent depth skater, too if another GM tries to waive someone good through early.

Beagle and Eriksson have much in common... 35 / 2 more / mods.
Oh what a difference one year would have made. Hindsight is a luxury ..

Covid really fucked us (along with beagle contract) if not for the flat cap we’d have toffoli. Tanev I think was gone no matter what, he wasn’t gonna get term here.

Meh. Without a flat cap we wouldn't have Schmidt, which would also mean Vegas would have Schmidt plus Pietro for years to come.

Almost half the league is within $1 mil of the cap, so we are all equally screwed.

Now, if you want to talk about the Luongo recapture penalty...
