Nhl.com has that Winnipeg game on the 29th, so I believe that is the only back-to back involving travel. I think in a normal year there are 8 or so B2Bs with travel in the middle.

Loui was signed in an off season where multiple UFAs were signed to bad contracts. In my mind that off season changed how GMs approach to off season now. The Sedin factor also made the Eriksson contract happen. Benning was under pressure to try to win as long as the Twins were here

Sutter trade and his contract was understandable, he was a decent player at the time, prime of his career, just paid $1 million too much, the sooner we get rid of him the better, he’s just too soft

The beagle, roussel, and schaller signings were Travis driven (similar to linden vey and bonino being Willy guys), that’s one thing I hope jim tones down is his willingness to get the coaches guys. I remember that free agency and it sounded like Canucks were out of the running for beagle because of his want for an extra year to play in Vancouver, then all of a sudden he was signed. I agree though beagle was a poor target all things considered. Roussel, and schaller would have been enough that offseason.

The subtleties of the signing are beneficial for sure, he’s good room guy and team mate, leader, hard worker, tone setter, mentor etc., it’s a digestible contract in a not so cap crunch era of hockey but unfortunately we are in a cap crunch era and I’d rather be losing him if he’s the difference in us not being able to sign Tanev or Toffoli for that matter

Covid really fucked us (along with beagle contract) if not for the flat cap we’d have toffoli. Tanev I think was gone no matter what, he wasn’t gonna get term here.
