I'd like to see a poll of the player's thoughts on the new travel schedule, after the season ends. I would think a lot of them might like not having to travel as much as they do right now. It also might help the "socially isolated" teams like Vancouver, Dallas or Winterpeg to attract talent if the players know it's not such a grueling travel schedule.Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 7:19 amThis is actually a great experiment for us. We have chatted for years how we would like to see the Canucks travel schedule reduced with more back to backs with the same team, in the same town... and now we are getting our wish. It will be interesting to see how it turns out, injury wise.ESQ wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 10:23 pm
I think I see your point, with the number of 3-in-4-nights, but maybe I'm just a baby of a traveler, but I think eliminating all travel in those 3 in4 stretches is a huge boon for the Canucks.
Maybe I'm inured by all the times they've gone like Ny-Columbus-Edmonton-Vancouver-Calgary-Vancouver and called that a 3 game roadie
It’s also nice to see other teams travelling more than us. I can’t remember if that’s ever happened before either..

The Cup is soooooo ours!!!!!!!
Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
Jan-Feb 25 games in 47 nights
March-April 27 games in 61 nights
May 4 games in 8 nights
Brutal stretch
Jan 28 home
Jan 30 in Winnipeg
Feb 1 in Montreal
Feb 2 Montreal
A lull late March early April
off March 25 - 30
March 31 home vs Calgary
off April 1, 2
in Edmonton April 3 (the start of a 7 game 12 night road trip)
Winnipeg April 4
Average is a game every second night (56 games in 112 nights). Five back to backs.
Playing the same teams two to for games in a row or 4 times over 2 weeks, will be brutal rivalries and vendettas.
2018-2019, average was a game every 2.25 days.

When you break it down like that it looks brutal as fuck.
Teams that can transition the puck up ice quickly will fare better than those that fumble and fuck around in their own end....like VCR last year...stetcher! (and Tanev to a lesser extent...LOL)
Vancouver should be set up in their top 4 but the bottom pair is an unknown. Rathbone is the one piece that could come out of nowhere and be a huge boost if he instantly lives up to his potential but that is highly unlikely and I highly doubt the team throws him to the wolves like that unless he surprises the hell out of everyone (like QH did)

Players that manage what off-time they do get will have an advantage.
Of course trying to stay clear of injuries will be paramount but that will very much be determined by on-ice awareness. Always is but it could be more difficult with a condensed schedule.. How the officiating is instructed to manage this season could obviously be a factor too.
Canucks did pretty well with the playoffs in the summer but this is much harder. Every game is not do or die so staying focused at all times will be very hard.
Really good team leaders, "and I think we have a few", will help. Could be easy to fall out of the playoff race but also easy to get right back in.
I think coaching may possibly play the biggest factor ever.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
Less time furiously defending their slot by transitioning up the ice quick will be a huge advantage and why the addtion of Schmidt is a critical upgrade for Vancouver. Tanev was a steady eddy dman but lets face it, he was average at best handling the puck. Stetcher treated it like a fuckin hand grenade so losing him is addition by substraction as long as the kids coming in are competent replacements.
Holtby/Demko are a wash with Marky even though the out of town hockey pundits have been identifying this as a step back.
Up front losing a rental is fuck all. Toffoli is too slow to justify that price tag.
I suspect Jimmy has at least handshake deal ready to go for when Ferk goes onto the LTIR. (wont count him out fpr the playoffs though). Im guessing a winger and a dman

It would be nice to see a statement from the province. So far it's just the league saying it's what they "believe".Madcombinepilot wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 5:38 amAll that angst for nothing.Todd Bersnoozi wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 11:17 pm Canucks allowed to play home games at Rogers Arena after all

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
They should rotate the rookies, the elderly, and the average skaters, using the taxi squad to full extent. For instance on defence:
Game 1 Game 2 Game 3
Myers Hughes Myers Hughes Myers Hughes
Schmidt Juolevi Schmidt Edler Schmidt Juolevi
Rafferty Edler Benn Rathbone Benn Rathbone
Resting rookies gives them time to practice with the taxi squad and look at film to improve their games. Resting the older vets keeps their legs fresh. Hughes, Schmidt and Myers are the only experienced defensemen that are great skaters. They may be able to play every game. They should do the same rotating out with forwards. Players like Sutter, Loui, Beagle, Roussel, Pearson and any rookies should be sat every third or fourth game just to keep their legs strong in such a condensed schedule. Even the great skaters should be watched closely and given a day off here or there. Green should be switching three or four players each game.
