I doubt the Players Union allows anyone to be forcibly shut down anymore. It will be "send them through protocol and see what happens'. I'm thinking of the Canucks medical team here. I'm pretty sure they can 'suggest' he shut it down for the year. Seems to be what is happening across the league with numerous players in similar positions. Of course if Ferland is determined to turn his brain into porridge (which seems likely) he can certainly insist upon his right to shop around for a specialist willing to clear him to ;lay. Yes, and as Brown Wizard pointed out earlier it does free up the cap space via placing him on LTIR to sign all of their young players without having to worry about offloading Tyler Johnson's or Alex Killorn's horrible contracts.
