Meanwhile Ferl is chomping at the bit to go out and get shutdown after the first period of game one.

50/50 he doesn't even get cleared to go to camp.

of course, this is just an opinion after reading a bunch of things and listening to interviews from a few weeks ago. Anything could happen.

I know. I'm just finding it incredibly irritating that he isn't forcibly shut down at this late date considering what went on last year.

I doubt the Players Union allows anyone to be forcibly shut down anymore. It will be "send them through protocol and see what happens'. Of course, if he does clear, he still has to make the team.

I'm thinking of the Canucks medical team here. I'm pretty sure they can 'suggest' he shut it down for the year. Seems to be what is happening across the league with numerous players in similar positions. Of course if Ferland is determined to turn his brain into porridge (which seems likely) he can certainly insist upon his right to shop around for a specialist willing to clear him to ;lay. The PA would certainly back him on this, as you say.

Nikita Kucherov will have hip surgery and miss at least the entire regular season for Tampa. Huge blow to them.

Yes, and as Brown Wizard pointed out earlier it does free up the cap space via placing him on LTIR to sign all of their young players without having to worry about offloading Tyler Johnson's or Alex Killorn's horrible contracts.

Funny how the successful teams always seem to find away around these kinds of problems...

Yes, and they are expecting him to return just in time for the playoffs, when there's no cap. :hmmm:

I'll bet it's one of those optional hip surgeries goalies get all the time (yes I know he's not a goalie).

Funny he waited until now to opt for the operation, but I guess timing is everything eh wot?

Tampa Bay Lightning @TBLightning
A little early Christmas gift for ya. Smiling face with smiling eyes
We have re-signed Anthony Cirelli to a three-year contract worth $4.8 million AAV!
Memo: http://tbl.co/cirelli12-24

Cirelli, 23, played in 68 games for the Lightning during the 2019-20 regular season, recording 16 goals and 44 points to go along with a +28 rating and 30 penalty minutes. The Etobicoke, Ontario native ranked tied for the team lead and tied for fifth in the NHL for plus/minus. Cirelli set career highs last season for assists (28), points, plus/minus and power-play points (five). He also led the team for face-offs (914) and face-off wins (434). Cirelli ranked fifth among all NHL forwards for average shorthanded time on ice per game (2:49).

Great job circumventing the salary cap with no repercussions. Too bad the aquas never mastered the art of palm greasing

Kucherov is a top 5 player in the league. Absolutely asinine to think Tampa cooked this up to get under the cap. ‘Hey Boss we’re going to cut up your hip so we can keep Cernak and Cirelli’.

Between that and the schedule will be easier for Vancouver than any of the other Canadian teams..... two of the sillier things I’ve read here recently

Don't think anyone said that - I said that the Canucks travel schedule will improve the most out of the Canadian teams, particularly compared to the EC teams who are leaving their time zone more then 1-2 times, like they do in a regular season.
