Watching the exit interviews, a lot of players were talking about how this team lacked discipline, work ethic, professionalism etc.
Looks like the rot is deeper than just EP40.
Put the exit interviews in context of the guys being interviewed.
3rd liners to tweeners
only one top line player, and a couple of kids with hope
Some of them have played with some other quality teams. Blueger’s remarks stand out. He won a Cup in Vegas, and he played on Crosby’s team for 5 or so years. Sid is rumoured to be a task master with comparisons drawn to Michael Jordan in terms of his expectations of himself and his teammates.
I think you can expect a lot of young players to need guidance in that area, but among the vets, who was this missing from? 2023-24 it was Miller, Hughes, and Boeser, who led the charge on showing up prepared at camp and putting in the work and attention to details in all 3-zones. They came back for the 2024-25 campaign and it was the same (though Boeser’s summer regimen had been impacted by the DVT).
Myers, Blueger, Hronek, Garland…..all names that were mentioned as being pros when it came to dedication and effort.
Miller, Hughes, Garland, and Myers, are all gone.
Who keeps the kids going? Teddy, Brock, and Hronek?
Tie that to the statement about kids not being barked at and hating coming to the rink…..other than JT who did we have that might have come across like that (he’s been gone for 18 months)?
Sounds to me like there’s a bunch of fucking mice wearing men’s skates.
