I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

If Verhoeff has the potential to become like a S.Weber, it'll be aweful tempting to grab him. An all situations D-man, logs 30 mins/game, play physical and a booming shot is almost a must take, but then he might become a Guddy as well.

It’s the feet that concern me. If he can get more agile and use his edges better, he can be that #1 stud. The fact he can get pucks through traffic, though, is a skill not every Dman possesses.Todd Bersnoozi wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2026 1:53 pmIf Verhoeff has the potential to become like a S.Weber, it'll be aweful tempting to grab him. Just to be safe, make sure the draftpick doesn't drive a motorbike.

That Chase Reid kid looks like a helluva pick at 3 though. Less risk that KV.
I read the canucks "brain" trust were all watching Malhotra though so if they follow the odds and drop to 3 watch for them to take him instead of one of these promising defenders

I don't like this thinking at all. It's a watershed moment, a blue moon event and you go safe instead of high ceiling?
One-eye's kid projects as a 2C at best and you have years upon years of rebuilding to acquire your offensive center... and it doesn't have to come from drafting.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: 2026 NHL Draft
To be fair Malhotra has had a terrific second half and exploded in the playoffs though so hes not necessarily capping out at a 2C. His point totals for a 17 year old are eye opening for sure.
Having already committed to BU next year is actually a good thing from a Canucks fans perspective as this inept management group can't rush him up to the NHLs worst roster at age 18 to get his confidence destroyed

Pick BPA no matter where the Canucks end up at the top of the draft.

Yes, but if junior, university or Euro stats automatically translate to similar NHL success, then there would be no busts.Cousin Strawberry wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2026 5:53 pm To be fair Malhotra has had a terrific second half and exploded in the playoffs though so hes not necessarily capping out at a 2C. What do you think of our $11.6M superstar now? After all, he beat Peter Forsberg's record as an under 20 player. Did you think the Sedins would amount to anything after 4 years in the league?
How about all those WHL scoring title winners? Lots of meh to choose from.
A few examples, not saying it couldn't happen with Mandhu's kid.

Re: 2026 NHL Draft
He's dominating against 20 yr olds in the playoffs. You can't really ask for more out of a 17 year old at this stage and there's nothing he could do to top what he's doing right now.
He is heading to the NCAA as well so he's doing what you want your blue chippers to do in his shoes.
The kid can fly, has a wicked shot and sees the ice like an elite playmaker. Lots to like there

Re: 2026 NHL Draft
Yeah, that's all fine. It still doesn't destroy my argument. Moe Lemay could fly too. Russ Courtnall aussi.
How will any prospect adjust to the NHL? That will be determined soon enough.
If TFGs pick him, I'll be happy. If they go with one of the big RHDs with potential, that would be more to my liking. My preference is still the Yukon Kid if he's available to us.
I'd would be more for Malhotra than Stenberg, TBH.
